This is the beginning a lengthy project that I am in the planning stages of.

So here's a peek of the beginning!

Don't mind the blue tape....just there to help hold in place for measuring and "eyeballing."

More to come.....soon!

You gonna do all the work yourself?

I think it would be a fun project. Good thing you had a turbo just lying
around.

From reading another thread of yours, I see why you want more power.
The neat thing about T-chgg a diesel like yours is there are no electronics
or emissions to be concerned about and you won't even need any kind
of intercooling if you keep boost below 10psi.

Great project!!!!!! Give us some details....what size is the engine...how many horses naturally aspirated...what brand, size turbo and how did you size it for the engine.....what boost you gonna run...how many ponies do you expect to gain. Any details would be great. Good luck on a very cool project.

I'll make one suggestion, while your in the planning phase, much sure your oil drain line from the turbo cartridge(center section) is always on a downhill slope and is of adequate size. Good luck.

Okay, I'm back! Had a few "busy work" projects going on around here.

I could care less to hear...."well if you want more power, buy a bigger tractor." I really like this "compact frame" size tractor because it allows me to get into places a larger machine would not. So, no I don't want a bigger tractor.

My goal is to basically have something different, perhaps the way it should have been made to begin with. Without going into the great philosophy of turbocharging and blah, blah, I hope to pick up a few extra HP and maybe a few ft. pounds of torque. If nothing else, it will sound neat until either the head blows off, or the crankshaft decides to depart the rest of the engine!

The first hurdle was to shoehorn something under the hood. I want to be able to put everything "back to the way it was" if I needed to. This meant, I cannot cut the hood, modify the existing manifold/muffler, and hack up the air intake filter box. Second, trying to find a turbo suitable was like trying to make a screendoor work on a submarine.....next to impossible!

So, here is the space I have to work with.

The turbo I found was off of a Kubota (of all things!) engine that powered a generator in a custom coach. Apparently, the engine let go due to a flaw in the camshaft and the guy I bought it from was parting out everything. The turbo is made by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and is a TD03 model. The center section is oil cooled and the intake and "charge" openings are close to the existing diameter(s) of the hose in the tractor now. Also, the overall compact size should work out good.

Based on several compressor maps, engine schematics and emails from "people in the know" at 3-4 psi of boost, I should be close to a safe reliable 28hp.....more if I wanted to jack up the fuel and wastegate settings. The engine the turbo came off of was 2L in displacement. The Perkins/Shibaura engine in the NH is 1.131L. Both engines have close to the same compression ratio and appear to operate in the same RPM range.

Pics of the turbo compared with a 1/2" wrench.

I am totally with you on your logic. The TC24 is an awesome tractor and has better power than similar sized machines (Kioti CK20/Kubota B7510/JD4110) and enough weight for traction compared to other similar powered machines (B2410/B7610/JD4115) but I still wish it had more power for PTO powered implements. It would be nice to have a small frame tractor that fits through the garden gates, but then never runs out of power for the toughest jobs.

I love my TC24, but if a 30hp diesel could be shoehorned under the hood it would be an amazing machine. Small but with amazing power. Sort of like a tractor equivalent of a Colt Officer's Model 45ACP.

I hope this works out the way you have planned. Do you have any idea what power you can expect from the engine after it is turbocharged?

Hopefully this is what will be accomplished.

I was on a roll last night posting pics and then the TBN site became real slow and I just figured that there was a problem somewhere. Other sites I brought up worked fine. So, I'll try and continue today.

To get a better idea how things will look/fit, I removed the manifold/muffler and that opened up some space to look at.
