NH TC29 sale fell thourgh

I've had both and personally prefer the Hydro over gear. With what I NEED the tractor for, the Hydro works best for me. Maybe in the smaller HP units, the NEED or CONVENIENCE of the Hydro outweighs the gear unit.

But then again.......I'm an "occasional" user, so what do I know?

I think your $15k limit is fine for new TC24DA and 12LA loader. It would also be pretty good for a TC30 with 7308. I just think a new TC29DA plus 14LA will be closer to $17k or a little more. Corriher has one for $15.5k, but I think you'll find your local dealers will all be at least 7% higher.

Essentially, I think you are exactly right in your decision to keep looking. You've got a good grasp of the price ranges and you know what you want. I'd certainly look at all dealers and brands before coming to a final decision. That's just using your head. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Don't forget, in the sizes that fit the needs of many of us, shuttle shift is not an option. It's either straight gear or hydro. I've used a shuttle shift in a larger tractor, and it's certainly nice -- but if I had a gear instead of hydro on my TC18, I'd be using clutch and brake instead of treadle, and clutch shifting every time I reversed, which is often. Few experienced users would voluntarily choose that option unless they were forced to because of budget or non-availability of hydro.

When you get into larger tractors, most would agree that gear is better than hydro, mostly because of the uses to which they are put. But, think about it -- there's a reason for shuttle shifts -- big tractor operators don't like a clutch any more than small tractor operators do.

Jinman, where are you getting your prices? Best price I was able to get out of my local dealer(SW MO) for a TC24Da/12LA was $16756. Got quoted out of Iowa for the same tractor setup @ $16250. Those prices have been pushing me towards a JD 4110/410FEL/60mmm @ $15700 and seems equal to or better than the TC24Da in loader and hydrolics but shorter on hp and pto. Local dealer has been pushing a TC33D w/7308 @$17700 and I REALLY like that machine but much prefer the looks of the 14LA which you can't get on the 33D. I did notice that the 24Da will bounce you around quite a bit more than the 33, so comfort is something to consider if a person is going to spend some hard working hours on his machine. Any down and dirty deals out there on a TC33Da/14LA? Wantin to be a NH man but JD keeps on pricing out better for the money.

A 3.5% price difference ($550 more) wouldn't force me to the JD. Spread out over the life of the tractor, that's not much. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

($550 more) either way would not sway me either. If you finance then would be just about one extra payment. I've been on both of those machines and even though I'm a Blue fan, I found the Blue much mroe refined. Also check the Deere. In reading the board here and talking to our local service manager, Deere has been having issues with the hydros on many of its small models. Get the New Holland 29 or 33 if you can. You won't regret it.

"Deere has been having issues with the hydros on many of its small models"

For what it's worth the Hydro issues are supposed to be well behind us in terms of new machines. I'm not sure how small you're talking about, but I know the early 4310's did have some issues. According to a few sources including my dealer it was on earlier 03 production models - and they can provide the serial # range if anyone has a question. With that being said, my 4310 has been bullet proof - it's about to go in for the 50 hour soon and I've worked it very hard in it's short life. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

SleepingDog - I think you're in the right ballpark looking at the brands you've mentioned. Hopefully you get the one you want.

Good Luck,

Cedarman, consider talking to S&H Tractor in either Springfield or Lockwood. They are a fairly high volume NH dealer. Realize their dealerships may be outside the distance you want to travel, but they are good folks. They also answer their email and can provide you with a good comparison to show your local dealer.

The Nevada and Harrisonville dealers seem to be slightly higher, but competitive with S&H, based on their posted used tractor pricing. I don't get out as far as Lake of the Ozarks too much, so am not as familiar with the dealerships closest to you.

Took your advice Jayhawk and talked to S & H. He quoted $19400 on a TC 33Da/LA14/folding ROPS/Hydro/R-4. Said wouldn't have any of the new 33Da's for 3-4 weeks but would look around and could probably move a "little" on the price. I know I've been told you should be able to get it for a little under 19K. He also told me, which is probably common knowledge out there but haven't heard or seen it anywhere, that the TC 24Da is discontinued and a new model TZ 24Da is coming out at a much cheaper price. That model will sport a LA 10 with a max height lift at the pivot of 670 lbs. That quote was around $12600 equiped the same as my local dealer with the downsized FEL. I'm guessing there is some downsizing to compete with the JD 2210. My local dealer has a TC 24Da/LA12/hydro/R-4 @$16756, (but he didn't mention that it is being discontinued) so there must be some real spec differences with the TZ model.

that the TC 24Da is discontinued and a new model TZ 24Da is coming out at a much cheaper price

A slight bit of confusion going on here. The TZ line is the new Sub-compact line. The TC24 is in the 'class I' compact line. The smallest horse power class I compact, the TC18 is the tractor that is being discontinued......
