My TC45 has had some issues holding a steady engine speed for some time now but it was just a nuisance because I could adjust the control to get the engine speed I need.

Recently it did a thing where I brought engine speed down under no load and as it came down to idle it made a loud chattering/chugging noise and I shut it off. When I start it up again the noise is gone.

I'm thinking the governor needs work. Reading the manual it seems I need to pull the injector pump, crank pulley, and timing gear cover. Strangely the governor parts are completely missing from the NH parts lists.

Anyone done this job? What parts should I have on hand for this? Should I leave this job to a pro?

I eventually figured out the noise came from a worn out water pump, which allowed the fan blades to occasionally rub the radiator shroud. That was the awful noise.

I think the shifty water pump assembly also caused the governor to regulate less closely.

Thanks for bringing us up to date on your tractor issue, I'm glad it was an easy fix rather than a major disassembly.
