NH Tractor won\'t turn over.

Jumped into my tractor today (New Holland TC45) and it would not turn over. Dash lights, battery ok. Anyone have any ideas where to start looking? Ignition switch? Starter?

I'd look for a loose or bad connection on any the several safety switches. PTO levers, Transmission, etc.

Fuse #2 on Fuse Block.

If your PTO is NOT engaged and the PTO light is on, Fuse #2 is a good start as Chris mentioned. You should also check that the PTO is not engaged and the Hi-Lo Range shifter is in neutral. Either of these will stop the engine from turning over.

After that, you should start looking for loose wires that have been pulled off your neutral sensing switch or the PTO sensor under the operator's platform on the left side of the running gear.

I think the seat switch will still allow the engine to turn over, but will just keep the engine from starting.

Checked all the fuses and all checked out good. Everything seems to be in nuetral as well. Ordered an ignition switch today and will put it in Thursday.

On my 2120, the pto lever has to be fiddled a bit, too. Had me stumped for a while the first time I went to start it.

I used to have a Kubota that never turned over until one day my tenant tried to move a BIG rock with the FEL on a side hill. When I got back the tractor was balanced on the steering wheel and loader bucket(no ROPS)- tennant OK but shook up and very embarassed.... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Next week my 4300JD goes in for its ROPS recall....

just a thought, but lights can work when the engine wont turn over because of poor connections on the battery terminals. the terminals will be able to draw just enough current for lights, but not to start the engine. try cleaning the battery terminals and connections and see if that works.

These new tractors have more safety devices than a 747. If it's shuttle shift, make sure it's in the neutral position. That happened to me, luckily...the guys here on TBN helped me out.

Cleaned off all battery posts and have a new battery in. All fuses check out ok. All safety switches seem to be operational and in proper position. "Hot wired" starter across positive lead and got nothing but "clicking" so I've removed the starter to test it.

Stop expecting a big problem. 50 to 1 its a safety switch problem. Start with the 2 connectors underneath that go into the emergency brake switch. One of them may very well be corroded. Take both connections out, get the corrosion off, replug and tada, it will start. If not clean the connectors well to the gear shift neutral sensor and the PTO sensor. I believe that you have corrosion in your safety system connectors.

I have a Massey 1020 that does the same thing youre describing. Try rapping on the starter while holding the key in start position. If this works, it will confirm a poor ground connection or corrosion like several here have suggested. It's the same principal someone commented about the battery connections if corroded will draw enough amps for lights etc. but not enough to fully engage starter drive. BOL

Success! It turned out to be the #2 fuse in the fuse block after all. Why I did not catch it earlier was that the fuses in the exposed fuse block checked out good. What I did not know is that there is a SECOND fuse block behind the instrument panel that once removed, exposes a block of about 10 fuses. Spent the weekend back in the saddle.

Life is good again.
