NH1925 Battery

Mike, I don't see anything wrong with a gel-cell if they have the cranking amps required for a diesel engine. Our engines are pretty small compared to the one in my Dodge 3/4 ton(Cummins), but my Dodge has two batteries. I haven't done any research, so be sure and tell us what you find out.

Duane, besides not having a battery box like a boat (which I think would be justified, but I'm not in NH engineering) I think the location of the Boomer batteries is significant. On my Ford Jubilee, the battery is between the engine and the steering column, so it doesn't get "thrashed" around quite like being directly above the front axle. I love the location of the battery for ease of access, but it sure gets jostled a lot.

I agree, but the available sizes are too big (bigger than 24 which was what boomerbrent had mentioned). So I went searching for something similar and found the Lifeline batteries.

Thanks for the link, Mike. You can be sure that if I continue to have problems controlling battery leakage, I'll first try to fabricate a battery box or go with one of these sealed gel-cels no matter how much they cost./w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Jim, would one of those marine-type plastic battery boxes work? Here in Michigan they're only $10 bucks. Since they're a little larger than the battery, I'm not sure they'd fit, but would save you a lot of fabrication time.

We used one of the plastic battery boxes when we converted our 1973 MGB from two six volt batteries behind the seats to one 12 volt battery in the trunk. Worked great.

Duane and Mike, I'm a big fan of those battery boxes and that's the first thing I thought of , but the battery mounting clips fit onto lips on the sides of the battery. I don't think there is enough room for a box. However, If I used a nylon strap that often comes with those boxes to stap the box down to the battery shelf, I might not need the side clips. I'm going to do some engine temperature gage troubleshooting today (Yep, I'm still working on that, Duane) and I'll check the clearance I have around the battery. I'm sure I have enough vertical clearance, just don't know about side-to-side.

We used the nylon strap in our MGB. Never had a problem with it.

Out in So. Cal, I had a great little MGB-GT, can't remember the year...60's something, and a $20-25. full deluxe Tijuana paint job... and that included painting the carpets and dash.../w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Anyhow... in what year did you own your MGB... cause I thought the nylon tow straps were only the past 10/15 years?

We had a 1974 MGB that was actually made in late 1973. It was one of the last ones with the chrome bumpers instead of the big rubber ones.

We sold it in the mid-80s so we would have converted it to the 12v battery, with the battery box and nylon hold down strap, about that time.
