Guys I wanted to thank you all for the info on the Nikon CoolPix 5700 and the Nikon CoolPix 8700 cameras. There is so much information that has been presented that I have started printing comparisons so that I can eventually sit down and digest it all before making my final decision. Looks like I am swaying toward the 5700 though. If you have any more info that you would like me to consider please keep it coming. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now you have to start thinking, hmm, I sure like those new photo printers, but which one. And how about those card readers, should I get one with USB 2.0 or Firewire. Is there a difference in memory cards like the Ultra cards. An external flash would sure make some nice pictures even for fill flash on outdoor shots and without the redeye in candids. My computer is so disorganized with the hundreds or even thousands of pictures, is there a better way? What about Photoshop Elements? QImage? What paper works best with my printer? Will chrome inks really last longer then dye inks? Should I use a filter on my lens? How come I have CA in my shots. Do histograms really help? Well I procrastinated about this camera thing long enough, actually too long. I have several tractor projects that I need a reliable digital camera for good pictures and since my older Nikon now only works when it feels like it, I made the final decision today.

I just ordered the following camera from New York: Nikon 8700 with a Hitachi 1GB microdrive. This way I figure if I take the camera with me on vacation I shouldn't run out of storage space for digital images. The 1 GB card will hold 256 of the highest resolution images that the 8700 camera can produce or 5,224 lower resolution images for web use or email.

Other goodies that I got for the camera were: Nikon CompactFlash card reader, Nikon AC adapter, Nikon carrying case, Nikon CompactFlash card storage wallet, Nikon lens cleaning cloth, Spare EN-EL1 battery, and a tabletop tripod. I already own a full size tripod with 2-light sources and 2-umbrellas so I think I'm set to go.

Guess you can see that I'm a big fan of Nikon. Thanks again for all the tips and tricks guys, I really appreciate it.

If you use Photoshop there is a nice plugin S/W module you can buy to automatically bring our shadow detail, I use it all the time. You can download and try for free. It is called Digital Sho and is at www.asf.com

I too have been a long time PSP user. I now have version 8 and if you don't have it, get it. The "One Step Photo Fix" is an amazing tool to fix/enhance digital photos.
