I used to think they gave out dl's in cerial boxes.. I'm now convinced they either mass mail them out, or just place a stack of them at the doors/entrances to buildings..

Overall.. drivers, at least here in central florida, are getting worse...

I would get the brakes also. This should not cost you much more.

You can get by without it but its not smart. The only time it is likely to come back to bite you is if you are involved in a wreck. Even if its not your fault, some lawyer will work towards making it partly your fault.

I think the law in Arkansas allows an ag exception but I have no proof of this. Why I think it is so is that a large number of farmers in this area pull fert. trailers and sometimes lime trailers that are very heavy and have not brakes at all. These trailers hookup with a simple pin ag type connection.
If memory serves, the lime trailers are "rated" to 5 tons, but most people are not that dumb if they are driving a 1/2 ton truck.

Another good example is a baler. I pull mine from time to time on the road and its about 5,000 lbs and no brakes.

I sometimes pull 3 tons of fert in one of these, up and down some pretty steep hills with no problem.
Thats 6000 lbs without the trailer! Granted I have a SRW 1 ton, but the key is to go very slow and stay away from the express way.
These trailers have a speed limit max of ~25 mph written on the side. Also one of the places makes people sign a form saying that they will not exheed 25 mph.
Of course some guys do anyway....
