That is the way of our gummit. Force everyone to use the same water supply, so if anything goes wrong with it it is a major catastrophy. If one well has a problem one household suffers. With everyone on public water, everyone suffers. Also with the terrorist thing going on it makes the terrorists job much more efficient. By contaminating one water source they can kill tens of thousands vs having to poision each well.
I have a cistern in addition to the public water, I hate having all of my eggs in one basket.

One way to get around the problem of no electric without septic is to build a barn or workshop and get service for it. Then when the house is built run a sub panel from the barn to the house.

It's nice to find some public officials who try to actually be helpful, for a change. 

I've actually had very good luck in dealing with the powers that be here over the years. I think a lot of it has to do with me approaching them first, before there's a problem. I usually approach them asking for advice or suggestions and find that they're more than happy to offer their ideas.

Slowrev I know what you mean, I had a friend get sick from the city breaking a line and not telling the town. The line ran near a feed lot and the seepage got into the pipe no warning was issued for 3 days. My cousin later drilled a well beside the one they filled up, then build his shop around it to hide it.
I worked with a TVA engineer he was in his 70's and hew as like me with the water. He knew how some folks water came from a wet weater spring with 3 or 4 well tiles in place with washed rock around it. We took samples and usually nature filtered the water just fine It had less pollutants than the communty water. My old machine shop teacher has a daughter with spinabifida and one of the similarities that babies born with that is from excesive amounts of iron in the water that the mother drinks. We got the settlement pond for that tank to clean one year. We cleaned it out its an iron in sludge form. and thats out of the water tank that the drinkable water comes from. If a fire hydrant is used on the main road here the drinking water turns black.
3 towns over we were building a building pad and this ciy cop pulls in and looks embarassed as all get out. he told us the building inspector sent him to ask for our permit. We didnt have one as we wer just hired to build the pad. The cop told us that the inspector had the backbone of an earth worm and that he was checking the old quilt lady in town for not having proper business liscenes.
