Well: we put a new t-sat and gasket in the TC and it still makes no heat. Also put a mechanical temp ga on it to view the actual operating temps, anybody had any luck getting theres to warm-up,ran it for several hours and never got above 130 degrees, thats with the radiator coverd completly !! I belive it should run a little warmer than that.

Did you check to see if it was the temperature thermostat that you wanted? (Should be stamped on back of thermostat). You might want to check if your radiator cap is holding the pressure it is rated for. Grab
hold of radiator hose and see if it's pressurized.

Good luck

My TC40D would not heat up untill I installed a valve at the intersection of the engine block and the hose that goes to the radiator. Without this valve, the water basically by-passes the thermostat and never lets the engine warm up. I, as well as others have discussed this earlier. Try a search on "cool running" and you can see some earlier posts. Hope this helped.

Did the new t-stat have the same troublesome little check ball jinman has pictured in previous posts? If so, you might be experiencing the same problem. Also, is your tractor a TC-35, 40, or 45. These three also have the problem with the coolant drain line bypassing the t-stat and requiring the fix for that.

Thanks for the tips. The bottom by-pass problem was cured and coolant can no longer just pass-by. The rad cap shouldn't have much to do with it though it tests fine(hoses are under pressure also-)new stat could be bad and the ball is stuck-possible,not likely. Really wondering if any of these make heat or what the range is. factory gauge just shows colors- according to the service manual the stat is 180-This tractor never gets anywhere near that.

Wetting the sensor? This has a mechanical gauge on it-it is full of juice just not making any heat,I mean no heat- It is under warr but I am tired of waiting for them to fix it. It has to be a bad t-stat, just wish they would get it right and soon-

Was u working it for a couple hours or
just idling.
OTR semis when u stop will cool down so
much that u get very little heat inside
truck.
Semi trucks also have clutch fan so they
only run above 200* or so.
W/ a mechanical gauge u know u aren't
hurting it so work it and see if water temp
comes up.

I Agree there -Tim, trouble is this thing acts like it has no tstat at all. It is cold all the time. I ran it for almost 2 hours, loading logs, moving round bales, barely came of 100 degress. It should do better than that. It needs some heat to help reduce the moisture inside ?? You are correct it does cool right down while idling, all our diesels seem to do that.

In order for the little ball to block the thermostat and keep it open, your temperature would have had to rise at least once to get the thermostat open so it could be blocked. Are you sure that bypass is shut off? Even in cold weather, my tractor warms up to mid-range in less than 10 minutes at idle. I'd say you either got a bad thermostat or your bypass is not shut off. There is one more thing to check in the system and that is the operation of the sending unit/gage electronics. To see if your gage is working properly, you simply disconnect the wire from the sending unit and ground it while watching your gage. If the gage goes to maximum, the gage electronics are fine. The only way I know how to check the actual sending unit element is to compare it to a thermometer. You can also remove your thermostat and put it in a pan of water on the stove. Just before the water gets hot enough to boil, a 185° Thermostat should open right up. You can easily see it operating. Good luck. ...and don't pull your hair out. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
