If the ball's been removed, I think you'll be OK.

NOTE FOR EVERYONE: If you suspect the t'stat, just remove the radiator hose above the t'stat housing and look down in the housing. You can very easily see the t'stat and tell if it's stuck open or not.

Follow up on closing off bypass hose:

Today it is over 60 degrees outside (compared to 25 degrees 2 days ago). I have been running my tractor (hard) for almost 3 hours with the bypass hose clamped and have seen the temp guage almost dead-center of the green all day. I didn't want any OVER heating problems, so I was keeping a close eye on it.

My conclusion: The bypass modification works great and seems fine in both cold and warm weather.

Now that the cooling system is operating properly and the t'stat is opening and closing as it should, you get to watch for the t'stat ball problem. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif Mine took almost 2 years to show up, so beware. You'll notice it by the guage never coming off the bottom, again.
