<font color="blue">Jim,

Thanks... I'd seen the link before, but had no idea which size was best... but as usual, you came through. <smile>...

As for the hydraulics, I got the explanation from the dealer... see if this makes sense.

The connection under the 'gas pedal' area is from the remotes in the back to the main hydraulic lines. When you put on the backhoe, it needs a main line, so you use that one, apparently on the presumption that if the backhoe is on, you'd not need the rear remotes anyway (bad assumption since there's no 'front remotes').

Then I asked why I couldn't set up a Y or something and his answer was that the backhoe is an open center control and the remotes are closed center controls. Does this make sense?

So my thought was that I should at least be able to hook up some kind of 'switch' between the two so I don't have to hook and unhook that quick connect (whoever named those never used them! <grin>)... especially since it is in that incredibly controtionist position...

So, does this make sense, or is there some better way to do this? Anyone ever run up against this or something similar?

Stoney, I think your standard manual toplink is about 19" at it's shortest and extends out to about 25". That's the best measure to use so that your hydraulic toplink "brackets" that distance. Mine won't tilt quite as far forward as I'd like and when I extend it too far with my boxblade on, the scarifiers hit the rear tires...not good. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I'm used to it and watch out, but the first time, it was a real surprise. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I'm still a little confused about your remotes. It sounds like you're saying that the backhoe completely disables your 3PH and your two new remote valves. I think the factory remotes were open center, but your diverter valve may not have enough ports to support power beyond and remotes too. It's beginning to sound like you really can get too much of a good thing. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif You may have to disable your backhoe to use the grapple.

Maybe you can get creative and come up with a solution. It will take more than what I know for that one. It's starting to sound like you need a PTO pump for the backhoe. and leave your other hydraulics as they would be without the backhoe. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Stoney,
I have a hard time reading multiple lines of print in colors other that black. (A eye focus problem) But from what I see your dealer has take the stance that he doesn't need to change your system. I don't know it that is right or not but it sounds like it. I also doesn't sound like you have a power beyond kit on your tractor. Which you should to run the hoe. The fluid should come out of the pump then travel to the three point, then to the hoe, then to the grapple valve before being dumped back in the sump. Now most any combination of the valves would work, but the fluid must flow in a loop. You can't put in a Y because in a open center system like you have the fluid will always take the leg of the Y you are not operating a valve in at the time. It will go the opposite that you need it to. I am not 100% sure on a NH, but I believe that the remotes can be completely take out of the three point hitch and hoe loop. That would free up you remotes. You would have to have a Power Beyond Kit to fix it right.

<font color="#123456">Jerry,

Is this any easier to read?

Having done a lot of reading on Hydraulics in the last few days, I'm starting to understand better... especially what 'power beyond' is... but I don't see any reference to a 'power beyond kit' from NH... but I'll ask the dealer the next time we talk.

I'm going to start a new thread on this question, cause I'm starting to understand, but need to get a better handle on a few items, like which are open center and which are closed center valves... and some other things... but all the fluid dynamics stuff I didn't pay enough attention to when I was a Mechanical Engineering major in college are coming back to haunt me <smile>...

<font color="blue">Folks,

Well, just talked to the dealer, and there's no such thing as a "Power Beyond Kit" from New Holland. And after reading some, the remotes are already set up for Power Beyond, and the Back Hoe is an Open Center control, so is automatically 'Power Beyond'... so I'm kinda confused as to why this convoluted setup is necessary...

So I guess my next step is to try to contact someone at New Holland directly to find out what the answer is. Not sure if they'll talk to me, but it's worth a try. Anyone ever tried to communicate with New Holland directly on something like this? Any of the dealers out there have any suggestions on how to go about it most effectively?
