Yep, Jim, that's about in my price range. The only problem is that I've never cared for any kind of mints.:D My wife keeps peppermints on hand, and I usually try one about once a year to see if it still tastes as bad as I remembered.

The good news is that Brachs makes spearmints and cinnamon disks also. Most people like one of those three flavors. Hershey's used to have a line of mints called Taste-tations, or something like that. Each mint was in its own little sealed packet. I loved those peppermints more than anything I've ever tasted and Hershey's had the audacity to quit making them. I've never forgiven them. When the Food Lion stores in this area were closing down, they had bags of candy on sale for 1/2 price. I must have bought 20 bags of those Taste-tations mints, but when they were gone I was forced to accept Brachs as a substitute. Sigh. . . .:(

Please say it ain't so:mad:. I bought my last 5 lb bag back in November '08. I always bring them to the office for everyone to share. We are about out and I am planning to go to Sam's this weekend with my wife IF it rains. I'll let you know if Sam's' in NC still carries them.

Bird,
The only people I know that don't like peppermint claim it brings back bad memories of Peppermint Schnapps:eek::D...????????

Jim, I've drunk a little bit of a lot of things, and a lot of some things, but to the best of my memory, I've never tried Peppermint Schnapps.:D

capi,

That is what happened the last time I quit. Made it a week and bought a can to celebrate:eek:. big mistake. I think I going to make it this time...thanks :)

I think your doing a great job!!!!!

And you have a lot of "support" here from the members.

I have made that mistake before.

When i worked underground methane gases was at high levels, and many people that smoked had to take up chewing or dipping.

But there was this greenhorn that got caught smoking underground by another worker, he slammed him on the ground and made him eat a half a pack of cigs or he would tell the section boss.(he still told):D

The boy got sick as a dog, he was stupid for even smoking.

I have seen the cont.miner hit a pocket of gas and a fireball travel a full break along the top, everyone running equipment had a gas detector with them. not a good place to smoke.

But my mistake was i had quit for 2 weeks, and i got a (BIG) dip of straight skoal from someone, after about 10 minutes i got so dizzy i thought i was going to pass out, i had to go down to the power box and lay down for the rest of the shift.:D

But after quitting for 2 weeks, it just took that one dip to start back.

Don't celebrate this time,___you have already quit,___remember that.:)

Saw a great patient in the ED tonight that made me think of y'all. 31 year old who noticed his right eye was totally dilated (very big pupil) while the left was normal. This can be a sign of a impending disaster (bulging blood vessel/aneurysm) in the brain blood vessels. It can also come from some chemical/medicine exposures - like the discs you put behind your ears for sea-sickness. Questioned him right and left about chemicals in the eye - nope. Twenty minutes later, after I had ordered the $2000 MRI brain scan to look for the aneurysm - "I did get some chewing tobacco juice in my eye" = BINGO . There you go! Cancelled the MRI. Everybody's happy and smiling now. Told him he should quit chewing - it's not good for you.

Nicotine is also used as an insecticide.

Well, you know it hurts, bad, snuff, I mean in your eye. Mine never swelled or anything, and when I was younger and meaner,a flip of snuff in somebodys eye was semi funny[as long as you wasn't the flippee],no body I ever heard of went to doctor.

And yeah, old timers would regularly give their horses and mules tobbaco,[killed worms and they liked it].

I've never had worms.

Still dip and nic free! But it ain't been easy. This weekend was rough, rained all weekend and I could not keep my mind off of it. Seems when there was nothing to do I always had my dip but now I was bored out of my mind being cooped up inside:(:(.

I have another obstacle this week, a two day sales trip with 6-7 hours drive time. I did stock up on the sugar free gum this weekend.

Yep, when I sat around with nothing to do is when I missed my cigarettes.

How is it going now? Hope you are still hanging in there. I have a little down the road advice I haven't seen in this post yet. I started chewing when I was around 12 and chewed until '94 when the company I worked for said we could no longer use it at work. I started using snuff then and continued until Feb of 2007 when I quit. I probably dipped on average 5 cans a week, only when I was awake or atleast usually not when I was asleep. In April 2008 I took a vacation day from work to mow my back field and thought a nice can of Cope would be good and wouldn't hurt to just dip one can. I was already starting to mow when I put my first dip in over a year and I swear the sky got bluer, grass greener and the sun brighter. It was the best thing I ever tasted. I did good that time, after I finished the can I didn't buy anymore. Then a few months passed and I thought I would buy some of the tobacco free dip. I like the first couple of cans and it was pretty soon that I had a dip of it in all the time but it didn't taste good anymore. Long story short (dang this post is already long.. sorry) I let that lead back to Cope. I have been dipping again for atleast 8 months and probably more than I used too. I actually think I would have a harder time quitting now than before. I keep telling myself this is my last can and I end up buying more before I run out.

My advice from that novel above is don't let yourself go for the tobacco free stuff either. It can lead back to what you are really craving when you buy the fake stuff.

Good luck and I'm hoping I can go the route you are once again!

I have another obstacle this week, a two day sales trip with 6-7 hours drive time. I did stock up on the sugar free gum this weekend.

On long road trips, I would substitute other things for dip. Sunflower seeds were good for awhile, but my lips and tongue would get chapped after awhile.

Beef jerky was good for awhile too, but it would make my jaw hurt after awhile.

My favorite is Altoids mints. They burn your mouth just enough to keep you awake, you never get full from them and you don't get an upset stomach. I don't have a clue what they are made of, but I can go through several tins of them in a full day of driving.

It's all about keeping busy and finding something else to keep you at least going. Nothing but time will take your mind off of the nicotine, but after six months, it gets better.

Good luck,
Eddie
