John,

Congrats on your new boat.

I had the same engine in a similar sized boat years ago. With the 19 pitch prop, is it pretty good on getting up to plane? If so, you may be able to jump up to a 21 or 23 for higher speeds. The higher pitch will make it a bit harder getting up on plane but your boating usage may dictate which you can/should use. Example, if you're pulling skiiers, you'll want to get them out of the water a bit faster so a 19 may be better than a 21 or 23.

To get it trimmed out, do you have any trim tabs or anything or just the lower unit? If the latter, once you get up to almost full speed, start raising the lower unit in small increments (2-3 seconds at a time until you get used to it). You can keep doing this until you start to feel/hear the prop cavitating, at which point you lower it back down just a little. This will raise the bow and get more of the boat out of the water giving higher speeds. Once you slow down or stop, you'll want to lower the lower unit all the way otherwise you'll have a heck of a time getting up on plane as your bow will be pointing at the sky.

Compared to my boat, /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif you have a performance boat. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Does it have open exhaust? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif And if it does do you wear your ear protection. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You could spend money on props and maybe get another MPH. But with price of gas its not worth running wide open to see if you got that extra MPH. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

John,
Id call up the environment agency, its not right people dumping things on your property for you to clear up, what, I mean, that great big white piece of junk you got there could cost a bit to remove, Oh what, its you boat? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Nice boat, nice dog, nice truck, nice house and thats some fine weeds in you lawn too /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
As to your frisbee dog, look more like a dog than a frisbee /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Do you let spike waterski behind the boat, or does he drive while you get out there on the water /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Wicked boat, how many beverage holders does it have? Does it take Cat 1 implements on the 3pt?
I guess after the new purchase the ole NH is second best, just remember, the boat aint gunna do a very good job of mowin the lawn /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Bob, looks like yehve been enjoying yourself. Did yeh let her take the elephant home? You could have leant it to John to waterski behind his boat, that'd have been a hoot /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

( Ron; The prop is a 14 X 19, engine RPM is 4200-4600. The manual I have says that screw is good for 52-62mph. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gifI had the boat up to 53 according to my GPS, and if I had it trimmed right, it would go a little faster. With Jan onboard I really haven't been able to find out what it really can do. Attached is a photo of the screw that is mounted right now. I keep calling a screw instead of a prop, had to break old habits, ya know. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

Thanks John, That's the same prop I have on my boat. If you go up in pitch your RPM's will come down and you will not go as fast. If you go down in pitch the rpm's will come up and you will go faster. I had a 19' Dixie Super-Skier with a 260horse 350 in it. I ran a 21 pitch stainless on it when goofing off. At 4600rpm's she ran at 50-55 mph. With a 19 pitch aluminum I could get here up to 60+ but the rpm's were in the 5500- 6000 area. Way too high for the motor but great for pulling skiers out of the water. You can tell by the sound if the outdrive is trimmed right. As mentioned, lift it up slowly until she starts to moan, then let it down a bit until it quiets down.

johnday-

Nice looking dog. What kind is it? Is it some type of retreiver? Does it bring in the newspaper? Can it fetch a beer (I asked that one for Mith)? Will it ride in the "sissified" truck (we call them woosie trucks in this part of the U.S.)?

Enough questions. Its nice to discuss important things like dogs and woosie trucks and boats with all the other stuff going on in the world.

I spoke to my parents yesterday and my mom is freaked out by everything that has happened in the last week. I told her to shut the stupid T.V. off, forget about the newspaper and news, and do something else! Why focus on the bad (which we all agree sells the news) when there are neato things to do like drive tractors, boats, woosie trucks, and play with dogs? (Do you like the way I tied all of that together?) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Brian; Thanks for the tip on tilting the outdrive. I didn't know about running the outdrive in would make it plane quicker. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I have managed to tilt out to the point that the prop was cavitating, and then tilted it back in a tad. Felt sorta like somebody kicked the boat, it started gaining speed up to 53 when Jans nerves wouldn't take anymore! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gifIt felt like it would have gone faster. One thing I've noticed, the other day I was at 2200 rpm, about 23 mph. I wanted to look at my lake chart, so I backed off to idle. Never touched the tilt. When I wanted to go again, I just brought up the engine back to 2200. It eventually planned out, and back to 23 mph. What surprised me was how long it took to get back to speed. Not complaining, just an observation. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ron; No I don't have the open pipes, but I was told they can be had. I like the sound of them on others boats, /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gifbut not sure on my own. Wonder what the performance gain would be with them? And if it would offset the cost? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Your right about the cost of gas, but I would like to know what this thing is capable of. Once I find out, I'll definetly be staying out of the ol 4 barrel. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi Mith; Nice weeds eh!? You see something there I don't? /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gifLet me know so I can sell it for a tank of gas in that there boat! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Since you mentioned Spike, I've never had a dog like that one. Jan and I keep the truck keys away from him. It would be like him to go out cruising and waste a tankful. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Oh, BTW, I've been told he's a border collie, you know, another of those things the Scots have given the world. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Must be why he's so smart too!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifOnce I find his clan tartan, he'll have his very own kilt. Hs's likely the only living creature I know that would actually eat haggis, caca. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jim; Me thinks I'll stay with the screw on it for now. Thanks for the tips, I don't know alot about these smaller boats. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I do know though, I don't know many people young enough anymore that can waterski. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
