Well thanks to all for the info and opinions. This thread certainly covered a lot of ground.

I appreciate Ranchmans, Hazmat, RobS and others who supplied useful info.

I wound up getting the Dakota Quadcab Sport 4x4 with a manual trans. Manual is my preference - And since I was spending MY money I figured I would get what I wanted. The truck is reasonably stripped - you actually have to hand crank the windows and lock the doors manually.

I did take a look at the Tacoma as suggested above. But no sticks immediately available. I was down to the wire due to the safety inspection and the cat converter so I needed to buy off the lot. I have no allegiance to any manufacturer and buy what I find is the best deal at the time. Belive it or not I have never had a choice of color. With the help of Edmunds and carsdirect.com I was able to get a reasonable price. Not great but reasonable.

Again I appreciate the replies and opinions.

One parting thought. Someone above call trucks "sport utility trucks" meaning all tricked out. I certainly found that to be the case. But it all comes down to "It's just a truck" It will carry me back and forth to work. It will haul rocks, firewood, dirt, kayaks and a wet dog or two. It will NOT make me smarter, more attractive to women or better in bed. Afterall - "It's just a truck"

Glad to hear you got what you wanted. Many years down the road you just may appreciate the hand crank windows and manual locks as they will still be working.

Good to hear everything worked out for you Phil. Also good to hear the Dakota comes with a stick. We looked at some (maybe it was the Durango) a couple of years ago and they were auto only.

And hey, no biggie on the manual windows. As someone else said, they'll probably be working long past the power ones /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Index shifting? That is at least semi-automatic!!!

More like a manual with synchros. The act of shifting, and more importantly the decision to shift, is still 100% up to me. Not a decision I'm willing to give up... yet /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Phil,

Enjoy the new truck. Mine hauls the occasional two wet dogs as well/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. I always have a couple of "dog towels" stashed under the back seat.

Remember Nissan's ad campaign a while back, -- Dogs LOVE trucks!
