Traction No traction

I just gave up my 4330 with a bad HST for a 5030 HST. My 43 had AG tires loaded and the 50 has R-4's loaded. I can not beleive the differance in traction between the AG's and the R-4's with the AG's being so much more. I expected a differance but not this much.

Yea, but on the bright side, those R4's ride smooth, and should outlast the ags a good bit.

Over the years, I have found that if I don't have sufficient traction with R4's, maybe I should wait a day or 2 for the ground to dry a bit better.

Even with dry ground I need more traction.. Maybe wheel weights would help?

The purpose of tractors is traction .
Ags deliver that traction.

If you don't want AGs you don't want traction so you don't need a tractor.

Have you ever used R4's?

OK, dumb question. Can you put chains on R4s? I had an older tractor with turf tires, and when I had the chains on, traction was never a problem, and was definitely superior to my R4s on my Kubota.

I have to vote for ags here...
after reading all the comments for/against r1 vs r4 vs turf..
I went with ags.. on multiple occasions I have come close to getting stuck with ags..

Today the thought crossed my mind when cleaning out an old drainage ditch. that R4's would really have put me in a bind.. Well not really a ditch..it is more like a water flow area between the S curves on our driveway beneath a small water flow where the culvert drain out to and flows to another culvert. It has been grown over for the last 10 years since the family member that maintained it passed on... without a backhoe I am just widening it to the 5 foot bucket width and it may turn into a nice creek area... Anyway the moral of the story--- AG=traction--- and torn up ground..

Later,
J

When I ordered my 43 I had them put AG's on, the 50 I bought used so I had no choice. These r-4's are in nice shape so I will see how they work out before spending better part of $1000 to swap them..

k43-

I'm very happy with my Ags - but The Plant Manager is not. I have been banned from the lawn 8^). Due to the wet nature of our property, I have not loaded the tires, yet the traction is still good. If you do decide to swap out for Ags do a little research first. There are different treads and ply ratings available. I just opted for the standard tires when I got my 'bota, cash suddenly being in short supply. So far, no punctures and I keep my fingers crossed - there's lots of scrap metal and old bottles burried in the soft soil around here.

Well, here we go,so, I will add, this is first tractor I have had with r-4's,and like them.

They are not racing slicks like some say[for some reason],have used mine in mud and some snow and find they work out just as well for me as the other tractor with ag's.
Can't imagine how anyone would have problems with them in dry dirt??

Now do they dig as good as ag's,no of course not, look at the tread, but they work fine for me,got 1/2 acre garden, got 8-10 acres of hilly trails and fields I mow, never had any problems yet.

Many people run to much air in them,I got my rears loaded and about 19 lbs of air[plus the kioti ck30 is a pretty heavy tractor for its size]

Maybe on some of them little light deeres and kuboto's,that light weight, would make all the difference.

Now,on to the advantages, they are wider, and if you get them loaded, they really seem to help on side of hill, thats a fact. They are supposed to be tougher and last longer,[can't tell for sure about that, but believe it nonethe less].
They don't make ruts from the bar tread like ag's,thats a fact. And they are smoother riding than ag's,thats a fact too.

None work on ice good, and would believe on ice,r-4's would be better than ag's[not snow, but ice].

Your turn.

I was told by a friend to get R4s if I wanted a FEL.. that the narrower front AGs tended to collapse or fold or something under a heavy loader. I've certainly seen loaders on tractors with AG tires and I haven't seen anyone here mention this phenomenon. Was that bad advice?

If you got a loader[and use it] than your front tires need to have max air in them or abouts,ag or ind.
