JD x749
I have a brand new JD x749 diesel tractor with 54 inch snow blower. The noise level, when engaged and not blowing snow, is equal to twice the engine noise (sounds like a squealing pig). The JD dealer says there is nothing wrong with it. Says it will be better in winter, when blowing snow. Should I keep the tractor or ask for a refund?

Thanks for your input.

I thought someone would comment by now, I am thinking the blower is making more noise than it should and screeching would seem to be a clearance issue or less likely a bearing issue. Might need to run in for a bit to smooth out but I have my doubts on this. I don't have a blower so I can't say. I do have a 749 and it has been a very good machine.

Waiting to hear some of the snowblower experts chime in.

I'm not an expert by any means, and I don't have a JD. However, my Kubota front mount 60 inch and my brothers bigger one both make quite a racket when running and they have worked fine for a number of years. If your dealer says it's normal, I would tend to believe him. Winter use will tell....Regards, Mike

Sounds like loose belt maybe?

If it is running smooth and making noise, then you should be able to turn the blower over by hand. If it turns over by hand and doesn't make a noise or rub anything you should be fine. If it is running really rough in the down position and making noise then something is out of balance. By the way is this a brand new machine or is the machine new and blower used? If it is all covered under warranty I would use it for the winter and see what it does.

Oh and by the way some attachments will beat themselves up when they are running and not being used compared to the way they run in the way they should be used like snow or no snow for a blower. I used to work for Deere as a mechanic and some of the smaller attachments would rattle around when the were being tested after setup, depends on the weights of the tractor and attachments.

I just took delivery of a 2720 with a front-mounted 54" blower and running the blower at PTO speed with no load it is very quiet. Obviously I have not had a chance to use it under load yet.

Rotate it by hand to see if you can feel any resistance. Pay close attention to the secondary auger. The 47" blower has seen issues with secondary auger rubbing the housing. Also make sure its all greased up really well, some bearings have a grease chamber have needs to be filled prior to first service.
Good luck.

Dear Tommyadvanced,
Thank you for taking the time to respond. My JD dealer is 60 miles away therefore I appreciate all input.
I listened to you video. The sound of my snow blower is much louder than the one on the video. Would it be possible to produce a video that showes the difference in the sound level of the snowblower when blowing snow and when not blowing snow?
Thanks
