normal operation of a rotary cutter?????

While we all hit dirt on occasion, you really should avoid it. That type of thing falls under abusive use and is hard on the equipment. Dulls the blades, can bend shafts, break stuff, etc.

But hey, who wants ant mounds?

But for some of us mowing around ant mounts isn't much of an option. They are everywhere down here.

But, I have hit some big ones and it doesn't seem to slow the engine down.

I just hope they don't wise up and start hiding rocks in there!

It would seem to this northerner that fire ant mounds are a very good reason to have the FEL on when mowing. That should level them fairly well without hurting the RC. SEVIN, anyone? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

SEVIN!?! They eat sprinkled on their donuts! Even if it killed 'em there's probably not enough made to curb the fire ant population explosion. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Where my property is in central SC there were no fireants at all 10-15 years ago. Now you see hundreds of the mounds in all the fields. I don't worry about my mower but I do wonder how they affect my B-I-L's hay mower (I think it is a disk type) and bailer.

If it's your BIL's mower, that is even LESS reason to worry. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
