ADVENTURES -- driving it around the yard, working on it. Bought it at my great-uncle's farm sale for $50 and drove it home, at age 14, WITH NO BRAKES!!! (don't scold; it was a different day and age back then) Never did get to drive it (legally) on the streets because I had two other cars (40 Ford turtleback; 57 Ford 312 supercharged) before I turned 16. It had a crank starter--great fun starting the old flathead six.

ADVENTURES * Memories / fun times - with it.
Every time I'd speed shift it the blower/Acc belt would come off and before long smoke would blow out of the defrost/vents.
It would hold 3 qts of oil and would burn and leak 1.5 qts then run fine. Blew the engine at a red light in the midlle of rush hr traffic. It was a fun little car to drive.

1966 Bug bought in 1973 I was 17 at the time. I had to make sure I parked on a incline so I could coast start it! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

ADVENTURES * Memories / fun times - with it: With the light rear end and the 327, it was good at doing burnouts! Mom hated it when I swapped from glasspacks to turbo mufflers. The turbo mufflers were so quiet, she never knew what time I was getting home anymore. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Lot's of good memories.

Year I got it: 1968
How old was I: 16

She was a tank and took me everywhere I wanted to go. I think the transmission was a Dynaglide, 2 speeds forward. The starter switch was on the gas pedal.

Adventures... I was in the service and at this time (64)and I was road running between Dover AFB and Philly every weekend I could. This little car was cheap, dependable, and ran like a jack rabbit, CHEAP being the operative word on the $99.00 per month I was making. I ran this little car hard for about a year and then turned it over to my little brother and got a 58 Chevy Bel Aire. Drove it a few months until I got orders for Nam in 65.

Bill, I won't swear to anything, but wasn't that Buick transmission called a "dynaflow" and the Chevrolet a "powerglide" and the Oldsmobile a "hydramatic"?
