When the temprature gauge rises above normal and before the red mark I go to the shed and remove the debris from the radiator core with air. Sometimes I follow up with the water hose. Anyway I try to make it a habit to care for the air filter per the manual while the hood is up. I set the output air pressure on the compressor at 80psi.

Best advice for air filter is never to touch it enough for it to become a habit. Ask your dealer to order you the BRAND NEW Deisel Engine Maintenance, Customer Edition. This is brand new, but they should have received info on it recently. It is very informative and comes with a manual and video or DVD. ANYONE with a diesel engine to maintain should have a copy.

The dealer I purchased my B2410 from allowed me to hang around in the shop while I was waiting on getting the seals replaced on the Back_Hoe out-riggers. Anyhow one of the gentlemen in the shop was tearing down what looked to be a fairly new three hole diesel. I asked what caused the engine to need the tear down. He said in a rather sarcastic way most likely a non maintained air filter. So I figure that when there is enough debris to cause the coolant temprature to rise the air filter is in need of an inspection also. Now I understand what you are saying about not touching the air filter. However it all has to do with the position of the air intake for the engine air cleaner on my tractor.
