Pretty doesn't get the job done, doesn't make the tractor any better and surely doesn't make it worth 1 cent more than the so called ugly tractor!
I beg to differ on that. That is why dealers shine them up. Visual appeal makes a big difference. So does durability and value down the road. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Of course JD green is my favorite color.
Actually after a few years of use out here the pretty one will almost always look worse than the plain jane.
Not if it taken care of and painted when needed.
I looked at a JD today that I saw just 5 years ago when it was new and it looks like ****. Plastic fenders hanging/sagging, hood cracked and rattles seat worn and cracked Now I know other brands that people say don't seem to have the fit and finish that have been treated worse and they all look better than this.
Abuse is uncalled for when these tractors cost so much money. I try not to abuse mine and know many farmers etc. that own JDs and use them hard but don't abuse them and after 10-20 years they are still nice. If somebody wants to buy a POS tractor and abuse it more, so be it. Kind of like slapping the red-headed step child.
Don't get me wrong, I looked at Kubotas and Red ones and blue ones and they look good to me. I picked green because of it's well documented history, availability of parts and it's long time value. But, if somebody would give me a different color I would take it and love and cherish it, but maybe paint it green.
I like em all
