I think he's talking about the Sci-Fi/satire book Slaughterhouse-Five

I should have remembered that, I read that book 35 years ago. I thought Vonnegut was a genius.

There was something very chilling about that movie (I saw the movie many years ago) that I have never forgotten, especially some of the scenes from the war. I understand that Vonnegut was actually in Dresden when the bombing took place.

I obviously started the thread for fun. I can't believe how many people actually take this type of stuff seriously.

The Appalachian Trail runs past a Navy base in western Maine where pilots train and experience what could happen to them if they are shot down and captured. In July 2012 a hiker disappeared near there, and in spite of exhaustive searches nobody knew what happened to her.
Last Wednesday while working on a project for the base I found her campsite and remains, about 100 yards onto the property. You wouldn't believe things people are posting in the comment section of the newspaper... many believe that a Navy trainee killed her and it was covered up. So why was I able to find her? One poster has implied that I killed her and returned to the scene of my crime... I'm glad that I had asked to remain anonymous.

Interesting.

I don't watch that much TV, but I did catch an episode of North Woods Law in which the wardens and others were searching for the hiker. They certainly devoted a lot of resources to the search.

SERE School (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape). I'm familiar with it. I never had to do it but I know some that have. They have some CRAZY stories about it!

My county is full of nuts like this and not only do they vote, they are part of the party structure that goes around lying and abusing government power. Some of them think contrails are the government spreading chemicals yet they are strong supporters of the government spending your money and getting into your business. :confused3::shocked::eek:

A family member used to work of the state and one day at work they found a body in the woods alongside the road. Most of the team did NOT want to report the body because they did not want to get "involved.":confused3::shocked:

Later,
Dan

It is sad so many take unfounded claims seriously. A simple news blip becomes fact for some.
There used to be a show on TV. I think it was called "You be the Judge". The show played out a real trail and the viewers would text in guilty or innocent.
In the first few minutes the verdicts were flowing in. No evidence presented yet just the accusations.

This thread is for fun but their are still people in the USA that believe in the flat earth and the moon missions never happened.

And the army was recently in Texas to spy on the citizens...
To be honest I had plenty of time to think on the 11/2 mile hike to the truck... If I reported to the Navy first would it get swept under the rug? Yet anybody with half a brain should know that nobody... I mean NOBODY- understands the importance of bringing them home more than the people in the armed forces.

I have a bunch of neighbor's that think like that. I've never heard a flat earth guy, but lots of folks think that the entire moon mission was faked. I used to work with one guy who believed multiple conspiracy theories. The best was the bar codes on the back of traffic signs - that was for the UN troops to use when the trilateral commission and the Illumatii take over. He need a extra thick tinfoil hat! He actually got a lot calmer after his wife divorced him... Maybe she drove him crazy!
