Number of users who don\'t post ??

Now, tell me if I have too much time on my hands /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif......

Or perhaps the veteran tag has gone to my head /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Looking thru the stats available in user list, I note we have some 3700 registered users, but only approx 1800 members have actually posted on TBN.

Note, that many of these 1800 have only posted once, maybe never to be seen again.

This still leaves some 1900 users who have registered, but never posted.

What's the GO here?

When do we cut the lifeline to these "lurkers" and cast them adrift??

Now I know it might sound nasty, as we all had to start somewhere, but do these "lurkers" etc. take up valuable space or similar on your servers etc.???

You have to remember that while they may not post, a lot of them do login, to use the viewing features an account provides. So if account pruning came into play, it would be much less than 1,900 accounts... and for a host of reasons, we don't plan to do that anytime soon. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I know I spent almost a 1 ½ years reading TBN before I even registered. I was brand new to tractors and almost as new to computers so I didn’t feel I had anything to offer and was scared to give any information to any site on the web. As a learning tool TBN was fabulous for me. The dealer network in my area was not that strong and I didn’t know anyone with the experience to teach me the basics. I know the advice I saw others receive here saved me money and allowed me to make wiser decisions. You never know who is being helped even if they don’t make posts.

By the way, if any other new users have the same concerns I did, I have never been spammed or received any unsolicited mail by registering on TBN. (wish my phone service was the same way) There are some wonderful features available by registering and I have met several people in my area by sharing some basic information in my profile.

I agree with MarkV. I'm one of those "lurkers" that only recently decided to jump in and try to contribute/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif. I'm planning on buying within the next two years, and the information on TBN has been tremendously helpful and accurate. I know that once I'm ready to pull the trigger, I'll have made a sound, informed decision because of TBN, regardless of whether I posted messages or not. I still don't reply to a lot of posts that I'd like to, strictly because I don't feel that I have the knowledge or experience that qualifys me for a reply - YET/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif! I know that by hanging out on TBN, I eventually will have at least knowledge. The experience comes after the trigger gets pulled /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

P.S. - Congrats on making Veteran. I really enjoy your comments. I had a teacher in high school from New Zealand, and he had one of the best senses of humor of anyone I've ever known. It must be something in your water /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif.

Oh well, to all the lurkers out there, come on, jump right in, we won't bite. I also back up the comments that I have never had any problems from being on TBN.

I would encourage all members to post when they see something of interest. With all of the different topics covered and the individual stories contributed I'm sure there's something of interest for everyone with a tractor or an interest in tractors. I will admit that I looked and watched for some time before posting and was concerned that the TBN members wouldn't be interested in what I had to say. But am glad that I finally posted and even though I've put my foot in my mouth a couple of times (not reading everyone's posts before replying) I've been treated with kindness and have been offered some very good advice!

One of these days I'm going to work on my signature (maybe a foot in a mouth). /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Yes I often post crap, and speak the same in real life. Spend a lot of time regretting what I say.

At least here on TBN I don't have to hear the groans when I stuff up /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
