I don't particularily agree with membership status based on # of posts. Don't get me wrong there is alot of good information posted on TBN, but there are alot of topics that I have no opinion on. It also seems that several of the topics are driven into the ground. Seems to me, using this method as a basis, the windier you are and the more bs you have to spread the further you go. I spent alot of time just looking before I registered also. Just wanted to voice an opinion.

I agree with you, but there's probably no other way to do this that wouldn't substantially add to the administrative workload, e.g., membership status based upon quality instead of quantity of posts. I think it was discussed before to only count posts in certain forums, but then that'd be one more administrative duty for someone plus additional fields in a database. Plus there's a lot of valuable information in the non-tractor forums. Of course, there's a French figure skating judge who's probably looking for work Muhammad might be able to hire to evaluate posts. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif.

The user status is only to indicate the number of posts a user has made, not their level of expertise, or even status here on the forum... we don't give titles like "expert" or "tractor genius" just based on posts, so it's simply to let everyone know if you are a first time user or if you've been here for ages.

If we got into "rating" users any other way, I think that would create problems...

For many of us, reading posts every day to gain knowledge on many subjects is the reason to bring up TBN.

Muhammad - You could do it based on word count, rather than by number of posts. I think that would be fair... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

On the other hand, you could base it on the number of useful posts made, having yourself, or perhaps the French judge previously mentioned, make that determination. But, personally, I'd much prefer the former. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Maybe, as you said, the best idea is to leave it like it is... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
