Tractor
Kioti, kubota
Used my rotary cutter for about 5 hours today, after finishing up I unhooked the cutter and then went to park the tractor in the shed. While driving to the shed , only about 100 ft away, I looked down and seen the CEL on and the engine speed seemed to jump around for a second, after parking the tractor it would not idle down any lower than 1350 RPM, but as soon as I would step on the brakes, it would drop to the normal idle speed, let off the brakes and engine speed jumps back up to 1350. Guess I'll be calling a dealer tomorrow and see what they say, but more than likely won't be able to tell me anything till I take the thing to them to read the codes. Really wish a normal obdII reader would work on these, be a lot easier than a 2 hour trip I now have to a dealer.

The workshop manual says increased idle can be caused by the following: injector short circuits- codes P0201 thru P0204; leaky or sticky injectors- codes P0263, P0266, P0269, P0272; Injector Minimum Drive Pulse related faults- codes P029A thru P029F and P02A2 thru P02A7; Crank signal fault P0335, P0371, P0372, P0374 ; Cam Signal fault P0341; Injector Driver circuit fault Bank A or B-codes P062E, P062F.

I know this information doesn't help a lot, but at least it narrows the problem down to either a bad injector, bad Crank or Cam sensor, bad Injector controller. In any the case the dealer should be able to troubleshoot pretty quickly.

Since you said you were using the rotary cutter, before you take it in to the dealer, spend a few minutes underneath the tractor to see if a wire harness might have been pulled off a connector by some high brush.

Thanks for the code info, I was cutting grass that was only about 6-8 inches tall , so I thinking more than likely a chaffed or broken wire , or even bad sensor, but yes I'm planning on looking it over well before I haul it over. Have you ever tried reading the codes on one with a scanner ?

I have not tried hooking up my car scanner because it is make and model specific and I assumed it would not work... but I will try later today to see what happens. I ordered a smartphone compatible wifi interface OBDII scanner the other day and Ill try it as well when it arrives.

Ok , I have a small generic plug in scanner that plugs in and reads the codes and will clear them, not vehicle specific BUT someone has borrowed it and I've yet to locate it. :( I also have a OTC Genesis , but like yours its vehicle specific too. The only issue I really have with the tractor ( and any other brand with diagnostics) is the fact I am unable to read the codes in order to work on issues like this. My local dealer was 15 miles away until he got sick and past away last year a the family closed it down. :( that's how it came to be my next closest is 1-1/2 to 2 hrs away but there is 5 or so with in this distance.

Try disconnecting the battery ground for a few minutes, reconnecting and see if the fault clears.

I tried connecting with my old OBDII connectors and they won't establish a connection with the tractor. Probably because they are both over 10 years old and are not ELM327 (the more up to date protocol) compliant.

Ok I did try the reset with the ground yesterday right after it happen, but it either wouldn't reset or since it still has the high idle its throwing the code right after you start it.

My new OBDII connector arrived. I can connect with the tractor ECU to read error codes (my ECU didn't have any recorded). I connected with an iPad and also with a PC running windows 7 just to see if both operating systems worked with the OBDII connector. The software I was using said the ECU did not support real time parameter logging for most items; I could see engine RPM and radiator coolant temperature that was about it.

Well that's great to hear, that info alone would help a bunch to be able to repair things. Would you mind telling which reader you ordered ? I found out a friend of mine just bought a new scanner and I'm going to try it tomorrow. I wasn't able to speak with the dealer today so it will be Monday now, but I'm pretty sure that my issue will not be covered under the warranty that I have remaining so I may as well try to fix it myself. Plus if I go over to the dealer I'm likely to trade the thing in on a hydro instead of the shuttle shift I have. :)
