NY Lotto - Check the Winner(s) for 9-11

First let me say that I get mostly get disgusted with the "numerology" that many folks have tried to read into the 9-11 tragedy, and this is not one of those, but, check out the winning numbers of the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.nylottery.org/winner/numbersres.php>NY Lotto </A>on Sept 11. Nothing mystic here, just plain WEIRD!

Spooky! I don't know much about lotteries, so I'm confused. I didn't know numbers could repeat? NY lotto only has 3 numbers? They must get a lot of winners every day!

On a pick three type lottery you pick three numbers and it does not matter if it is different numbers or the same numbers. It could be 1,2,3, or 1,1,4 or 7,7,7. The numbers are drawn daily, or in the case of NY, twice a day.

On pick three type lotteries you can select whether you want your selections straight or boxed. If you select straight the odds of winning are higher and you get paid more.

Straight means that you have to pick the correct numbers in the correct order. For instance, if you pick 5,4,5 and the drawing is 5,5,4 you lose. It would have to be the exact same numbers in the exact same order.

You can also choose to box your numbers. This is a little more complicated but basically you pick three numbers like 5,4,5 and you will win if the drawn numbers are 5,4,5 - 5,5,4 - 4,5,5. There are more options you can play if you box your numbers but this example should give you an idea of how it works.

Pick three games cost .50 or 1.00 depending on whether you play straight or boxed numbers. It is the cheapest game to play and has the lowest payout due to the low odds.
