Unless your cutting 1"+ you don't need more than 35 PSI oxy (30 is good for most general cutting) and about 4 PSI acet. I'm guessing you had a smaller size tip?

Thanks for the info. Yeah I have a Victor style 3-101-0 tip on it.

Our instructor taught us to increase the acetylene until the smoke stopped, then add ox until the flame looked right, didn't matter what the gauges said. 4-5 and 25-30 seems to work for mine....

Thats how I was Taught in School and by both my Dad and Grandfather . Never looked at the gauges except to see if I had enough of either gas to do project .

Haven't done it since school 35 years ago but and completely forgot until you reminded me... that's what the instructor said too. :thumbsup:
