Gladehound, I agree with what you're saying about Tractor House being asking prices, not actual selling prices, but it's a good enough indication that the asking prices are significantly higher than the quotes Axlehub and I were given on the same tractor. It would then take significant negotiating to get the prices lowered to the original sales price.
In your example, your machine is still too new for this full effect in my opinion and they are still asking 2k more than you paid for yours on tractor house and as you pointed out, your machine could be worth even more. Give it about 3 more years or so and you'll probably easily get to your investment or more (unless you trash it and put on 2,000 hrs per year of course). You see my point. Tractors don't depreciate like cars do. They are very different. That's the simple way to say it.
Nikko, yes, you want to stay below the Tier 4 stuff. My recommendation to you based on your desired tasks and size of land would be SCUT. My compact was too heavy to use often times enough on my 3+acre yard. It would easily leave ruts unless at least 3 days or more after a rain. Yes, it could lift more and do other things faster, but was not as maneuverable or desireable for yard maintenance and less practical for that application in my opinion. My SCUT is very nicely sized for this size parcel. These are my opinions only. Others will disagree. If I was a loaded millionaire, I'd have both even though I'd still use the Sub more often than the Compact and would probably park the Compact at my other property which is larger and has more "big" chores to do. With you not even having practical experience on tractors, you don't even realize yet how powerful of a machine a SCUT is. It is nothing at all like a lawn mower. It is a real tractor, in a small frame.
