We all might have problems with the o-rings starting to leak. The new ULSD will attack Buna rubber o-rings. If you don't believe me just ask around. Shortly after switching to USLD in my truck (99 F250) the o-ring on the fuel drain on the fuel/water seperator started to leak. It seems that the newer vehicles have Viton o-rings instead of Buna.

I went to Welcome to MotionIndustries.com and bought a 10 pack of Viton o-rings in the right size for less than a replacement Buna one at the dealer. No more leaky!!! :D

Yea, and much cheaper than going back to the manufacturer to get what you need.

FF,

How do you arrive at the ID/OD specs for your O rings?

Thanks

RFB,

I actually go the ID and OD off of Diesel Forum - The Diesel Stop.com Lot's of great information over there. Do you need one. I still have 9 in the pack that I bought from Motion Industries. Send me a PM and I will mail you one.

Pardon my ignorance here but is the ULSD the on road fuel or off road too? We are able to buy agricultural diesel here at substantially lower cost and my assumption was that it still had the sulpher, but I don't know.

I have also noticed that McMaster Carr has the make it yourself o ring material in viton. They recommend a certain c/a glue and then, for silicon and Viton, a vulcanizing step with a kit they sell for only 900 bucks each for metric and inch sizes! So much for this being a useful piece of info. Motion Industries here we come.

Chris,

Thank you for your gracious offer. I do not need one yet; I only use dyed OR diesel so I do not think it has caught up with me yet. What I was after is your id/od knowledge so that I can get an assortment for future needs.

You need a decent set of calipers. Measure the thickness, (cross section) then measure the I.D. That measurement will correspond to an o-ring # you can find in this catalog- Hercules Sealing Products. There is lots of good technical advice in the Hercules catalog.

Sometimes off-road is hard to find. I have occasionally run USLD in my Kubota, but prefer the off road as it is cheaper and has more sulfur.

Around these parts we are told that all of our off-road is now the ULSD with dye added. Speaking of ULSD was reading an article recently about the loss of sulfur's lubricity and what to do about it. Article was real involved, to me anyway, but the bottom line was that adding as little as 2% bio-diesel improved the lubricity up past what the sulfur did.
