O-RING unlocatable:Kubota glass fuel filter bowl

I once drained some water out in a field after a bad tank full. I went to launch the bowl of water into the tree line before thinking. Out sailed the o-ring and spring.

I crawled on my hands and knees in rasberry canes for 30 mins to find the spring. Never found the o-ring. Bought a few spares, it will hold fairly well without at least and I got the tractor home.

The O-rings arrived by mail... there are two... one large and one small. I installed the O-rings today. The one large one around the plastic bowl I knew about and was very simple. Turns out there is another O-ring about the size of a nickel that the fuel filter snuggles up to. That bugger was nearly impossible to remove... finally required the sharp point of my pocket knife to get under it. However, installation of the new one was so simple that I had to look to make sure it seated properly. Problems solved now.

Please do'nt take this the wrong way , if anyone is removing "o" rings or ram seals etc please be very carefull if using pointy/sharp objects to pry them out . Microscopic scratches will be the result on the lower portion of the seal/"O" ring groove and can cause hair pulling problems . In your case it would be fine as it is imersed in fuel and would'nt suck air . It's better to buy an "O" ring picker for future use , only costs a couple of dollars and are worth their weight in gold . One example is that i bought a low houred flail mower with side shift . The ram leaked when used , i had to buy a new piston as the previous owner had scratched the "well" where the seal goes and the high pressure hydraulic oil would find it's way under the seal and out .

Good point, thanks for the comment. I agree... I worked for 20 minutes, incrementally trying different tools and increasing amounts of pressure... and, yes, in this particular application there will be no problem, but if I run across an O-ring picker, will add it to my tool chest.
