what makes you think amsoil is a 25,000 mile oil??

Amsoil CAN go up to 25K in some applications with just a FF filter; but, not in every & nor all applications. What is missing from this thread is the lack of oil analsyis and a good baseline. Amsoil has a good basestock and its volatility stability is exceptional.

Please do oil analysis for additional confirmation of any oil quesitons.

Then again I can have a dino oil like Havoline or GC and have an ADD like LC20 that will keep up with Amsoil for 60% LESS then Amsoil. If you have not tried Lc20 you reall should. It will make you wear numbers go down by LOTS!

yes, you are right about the compressors, as the will stay alot cleaner on that type of use. but as the engines, we do not put additives in, each engine holds 360 gallons of oil. and on a weekly use we might add about 30 - 50 gallons a week. and something i didnt mention before, this engines been in use since 1975, and take 2 - 4 years due to ship yard projects.

There is something you aren't seeing or you aren't aware of in the scenario. There is no possible way that witout the addition of supplemental additives after spinning the oil, that the engines internal components would survive even with makeup oil every week. The base additive package is degraded by heat and contamination and while spinning the oil removes the contamination, the heat of operation degrades the additive package and that has to be replenished.

There is no way an engine will survive without additive replenishment on a regular basis.

oh, i forgot to reply on that question, sorry, when centerfuging, or spinning the oil, it does not take out additives, maybe a very small %, it does take out alot of soot, which some additives my get lost in the process, but adding
30-50 gallons a week will make up for it. when cleaning the centerfuge when finished, their is only about 4-5 gallons of waste.

Today the UPS truck rolled down the drive with my 2.5 gallon jug of 15-40 HD Marine Diesel Amsoil. I have 232 hrs on the tractor now and will be changing at 250 hrs. I did the first oil change at 45 hrs and the second change at 150 hrs. I used Rotella "Synthetic" oil for both of these changes.The first change was at approx 6 weeks and the next one at 9 months or so. This upcoming change with the Amsoil will be in a few weeks. How long can you leave the Amsoil in the tractor without having potential oil related problems? What time and hour durations would be appropriate for this Amsoil oil? I can't wait to get it in there and report my observations on this stuff. I was initially going to go with the Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel rated oil but I could not find it anywhere in our little town. Plenty of other Mobil 1 grades available but none of their Turbo Diesel oil at Wally World, K-Mart, Advance Auto, Napa, AutoZone or any of the little independent parts places. So, with the availability of Amsoil on the Net I decided to go with it.

How long can you leave the Amsoil in the tractor without having potential oil related problems?

I hope you never find out. Change per manufacturer suggestion.

After reading the Amsoil & FarmTrac literature I think I can go for a year on the change interval. I figure that will be 200 hours or so, most of them in a light duty application.

200 hours will be fine with HDD&M; you can go more then that unless you have a poor burning engine. It is a true grp 4/5 unlike the other Rotella "Synthetic" that is not. It will handle oxd, acids etc VERY well.

Course it will run plain old dino oil just fine for 200 hours or once a year as well. Which I am sure is what your tractor manual says. Mine does.

All I will say is I would run an cheap $20 oil test and see what it shows. I am very sure a dino oil will not hold up that well and the wears numbers will be much higher then if a synthetic oil was used.

If using a dino oil I would use LC20 then it would perform the same as Amsoil but much cheaper.

hs, Not familiar with the LC20, could you please elaborate?
