This weekend while I was putting quite a few hours on my 4600/460FEL, I noticed that my bucket would stop uncurling (dump sequence) and it would require me to release and then re-engage the (hard right on the joystick) dump sequence. This didn't seem to be a problem all the time - but only when I was stopping the bucket at level, stopping, and then releasing it. I also noticed that sometimes it would start to curl back up - like I might of had the joystick engaged to lift the bucket - but it wasn't what I had intended it to do. This didn't happen all the time and as long as I let go of the joystick and reengaged it, it stopped. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Another interesting point - if I did it straight through without stopping the bucket during the dump sequence, I had no problems. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Is this an issue with the SCV/Cylinder/Joystick situation? I'm thinking it has to do with the joystick as it just doesn't happen all the time. I might have gotten a little heavy handed on the joystick - sorta like the old Atari joysticks used to do. But I'm not sure and I'd like to hear what others have to say. Are these joysticks pretty touchy? Could it be the fluid/heat/etc. since it was warm that day? Should I add more even though the fluid is currently full?

Does anyone have any suggestions? I will give my dealer a call to discuss it but I was curious as to what this problem might be.

Thanks for your help!

Hi

I've noticed a similar operation with my new 430 loader. I was thinking it may have something to do with the hydraulic regen feature.

The manual mentions it and shows a diagram of how to enable/disable this function by locating a metal bracket on the SCV control valve. The regen option runs the bucket faster when the stick is moved hard to the right.

I thought maybe I was holding the stick sort of in between when this happens. I'm not sure - need to check it out more. I might move the bracket and see if it makes a difference. I don't which mode was selected when I received it.

My 4710/460 does the same thing.

Johnbilt -

I can't find any information about the hydraulic regen feature in my manuals. Can you point out where you found it?

Thanks!

Sure - Be glad to. I'll check my manual when I get home tonight. It was either the Tractor or the Loader manual.

I checked my SCV config last night and it appears to me that the regen feature was enabled as I received it.

I have a 990 with a 430 loader. I would expect the same SCV valve operation is common on all the JD equipment.

Talk to you soon

I checked the JD website and looked at the manual for the 990. It shows the Regen feature.

Scroll though the manual until you find the SCV Regen section. Take a look at this one and then see if your manual shows the same.

John -

I don't see this in my manual at first glance, but I'll look closer and then compare it on the machine itself. Mine is a 4600 - so I'm not sure if it is the same as your 990. I'll take a shot tonite and let you know what I find.

Thanks!

You 4600 will be the same as my old 4300 so right under the loader joystick you will see a lever with 3 positions and you want your lever in the top the picture of the open lock. The middle is to prohibit the regen function you only use this for attachments other that the front loader. The locked lock is to prohibit the movement of the joystick itself. The regen functions for our 990s is behind the plate that has the loader lock and unlock picture on it. You must remove the 4 screws to access it. Hope this helps

Ah - ok. I was not clear on those settings as the 4600 manual does not clearly spell out what those various positions mean. I took it for granted what the locked / unlocked symbols mean - but the "book" symbol didn't make sense to me.

So do we want the regen feature turned on for the usage of the bucket? And not for things OTHER than the bucket?

What are the pros/cons of having it on and off? Just the ability for it not to dump as fast?

Also - I'm puzzled why the 4600 manual didn't show it. I'll have to check the Deere site for the 4600 manuals (they used to be on there) to see if they have an updated page for it.
