Odd noise

I wonder if the guy left his foot on the clutch the entire time and damaged the clutch or throw out bearing or if he simply let the PTO engaged and that noise is just clattering for the gears being unloaded.

My guess is he will find the rattling noise is in the PTO power train.

The big question not answered is, what were the implements he also let the gentlemen use. Were any of them PTO driven? And another big question what type environment was he using the tractor and implements in old established soil or in new virgin soil. Sounds like he was using the tractor as a dozer to clear and prepare land for seeding or planting.

My concerns exactly no pto use but he definitely said he used it for clearing to seed—like a dozer was my impression as well. But when I use it hard I definitely use the clutch in n out to get a extra large scoop or drag back blade uphill etc and if something wears doing that like a bearing it could be a problem waiting to happen as I’m not clear on how much you can/should ride the clutch?

If that is the problem I doubt it's because of anything which he did. How many hours are on the machine? Is it still under warranty? While that doesn't cover abuse (or friction items) I would check to see if it's a covered item before doing anything which could void your coverage.

Try engaging the PTO if you haven’t already and let it run for a couple of minutes, disengage and see if noise persists.

I know a guy who would be a real life Kramer.
He cooked the hydralics in a brand new rented 100hp backhoe in less than 20 hours. He got it with 5 hrs on the clock and sent it back just over 20.
He barrowed a neighbors tractor and destroyed the brakes in one weekend.
Nothing says the wrong idiot operator can't break something in short order.
