Odd rockshaft behavior

Nearly all leak down slowly and reposition. The issue is how fast and is the condition stable or worsening. The 1st thing Id do is change the hyd fluid if its old.

60 hours total on the tractor. The cycle rate is something like 10 - 20 seconds.

Your tractor 3 pt problem could be rockshaft piston seal or control valve failure.

Thanks. I'll have that discussion with the dealership.

Hey, a friend got me thinking. I've had the grapple on the tractor almost constantly...either that or the shear. Much of the time the grapple is locked down (same with the shear) and at that point, I'm assuming it's relieving. If that's the case, would it also be allowing relief on the lift arms of the 3 point?

Well, I checked this weekend and with anything hanging on the 3 point, the system cycles even with the FEL 3rd SCV shut off. It varies the time between cycles based on RPM. As soon as I lofted the implement, is cycled throughout the range of lift. I'm close to 100 hours so it'll go in for service and check this problem out at the same time.

Well, I stopped by the dealer and talked to my salesman and the head honcho in service. They have a 3X20 in the shop that has the same problem but is running very hot in the hydraulic fluid. I pointed out that my 3rd SCV runs warm to the touch. He indicated that if I can put your hand on the unit that I don't share the same problem. He indicated that JD MIGHT pay SOME of the costs as I'm a month out of warranty. Well, I can't cover the cost if they don't as I've had a lot of unexpected expenses lately. I'll cycle the drop control under power and see if that helps. Otherwise, I have a tough choice.

In that I've mowed my trails and am done with the box blade for now, I'll hang the ballast barrel on the iMatch and run the thing up to have enough ground clearance and then crank the drop control full clockwise to lock it down and see if it stops cycling. If it does, it'll go that way until 200 hours and then see the "doctor".

I had this happening on my brand new 5055E Cab tractor. Turned out to be the rockshaft control valve. The dealer replaced it and now it works fine.

I got out to the tractor yesterday. I had the control of the rockshaft set way too far open. When I lifted my ballast barrel and tried to drop it quickly it took less than a second and hit so hard the local news reported it as an earthquake. I adjusted it to a two second drop and the cycling went from an eight second count at best to maybe 30 seconds at idle and with use i almost never heard it. With the valve closed, it didn't cycle at all. When it does cycle, it only lowers 1/4" or so then pops up with a pause and no movement in between. I have no idea what this all means.

Got it back from the dealer today with a clean bill of health...well within spec. Gonna find something else to worry about.
