Roy you must have been reading my mind on the chains. Great website... Thanks for the info... Now as a newbie.... I'm gonna have questions on the different kinds of chains... spacing, link type, etc. I have R4's. Do you know if that place in Johnstown has a retail store or is it all web sales?
Looks like we're in for at least 4-8" in my area... Maybe more. Big concern is that there is still a lot of leaves on the trees. Heavy wet snow does not mix with leaves on trees.
They do not have a store to visit...I wanted to go to Johnstown to pick mine up, but there is no provision for customers at their warehouse at all.
I can tell you they're quite helpful over the phone...country boys though, so don't expect smooth, polished salesmanship. But they can make recommendations as far as what would work best for your circumstances. They do sell out of some sizes and types...sooner you call, the better.
Before you call, measure the spacing between your tire's sidewall and the fender. Wouldn't hurt to have the measurement from the top of the tire to the fender too. For ladder type chains, they recommend 2.5" minimum clearance.
It cost me about $32 for shipping to just SE of York, PA. It'll be close to that for you, I would think.
BTW, if you have a ballast box or other ballast you can put on the 3PH, that'll help. I did OK with R-4's (no chains) for 6 years (on my 790), but every now and then I'd have to push out with the loader...a bit of a pain, but better then a shovel. Also, since your Kubota is new to you, read about how to use the differential lock...you might need it tomorrow.
As I wrote, I haven't installed my chains yet as I figured I'd be mowing again...well, I hope I don't regret not putting them on...but if necessary, I'll do it tomorrow. I have turfs now, BTW.
