Does anyone know if there is such a thing as an odometer for "small" trailers, like equipment and horse trailers? I've seen them on semi-trailers, attached to the hub of one wheel. It's not that much of an issue with our utiliy and equipment trailers, but our horse trailer is on the road daily, behind different trucks. It would be handy to have more than just a guess for tire rotation, etc, not to mention just plain curiosity, after 12 years of use.

I didn't try a search, but would guess you can find them online. They definitely would have to be calibrated to the size of tire being used. Maybe Timber can chime in and help you, he's a semi truck owner.

Hi Jimainiac - They are called "hubodometers" and are commonly used on rental/leased semi trailers. As Ovrszd said, there are different meters for different size tires. I am not sure if they are available for "smaller" automotive size tires. The smallest that I know of are for lowboy equipment trailers. What size tires do you have?

onsight is absolutely correct!

I used to work in the Truck/Trailer industry for many many years, the last position I had was in the parts supply end for a small trailer leasing company. We used to put these hubodometers on all of our trailers as well as the shunt trucks (which only had hour meters) and some of the small hiway trucks. As I was the person responsible for ordering these units I immediately recalled the name of the company we used to purchase these from. The brand we chose was made by "Stemco" and the units are calibrated by tire size. They do have a wide variety of sizes available. These hubodometers used a special hub cap with a smaller hole in the center to mount the assembly to the wheel. The most common was the 6 bolt hub cap that we were using. Now these particular units were specifically designed for use on tractor trailers but you may find aplications outside of that realm at "www.stemco.com".

Hope this helps...

Thank you, everyone, for the replies. Those hubodometers on the RV website look like just what I need. Coincidently, the tires on our utility, equipment lowbed, and our horse trailer are all the same size, 225-75R15. As I said, it would have been nice to have had one from the begining with our horse trailer, 'cause it's seen alot of miles and it would be interesting to know just how many, but it would be nice to start now, as I just put a new set of tires on it yesterday.
Once again this confirms my belief that you can find out the answer to just about everything on TracterByNet, and at the speed of light!

Hubometer is a registered trademark of Stemco. Any local parts store that sells Stemco wheel seals should have their catalog. There full list of Hubometers is in their catalog. I have even seen their newer digital/electric ones on fleet trailers in recent years. Hubometers
