off road diesel or regular diesel

The crazy thing is that offroad and HHo sometimes will have different prices, even though there the same product? I understand that HHO may be more cause the driver most times cant drive to the tank and needs to pull hose, where an offroad tank usually will always be able to be driven to , to fill tractors and farm trucks and such. But when i called for filling my tank i found out that the Offroad was (at that time) $3.05 ish delivered and the HHO was $2.95 ish this is from the same distributer and had a 100 gallon minimum of both? Making any sense:confused2:? When i asked the lady why they had 2 prices on is cause it was the same product she said casue we do. Then i asked why anybody would buy offroad when they could get HHO for the same price, she had no answer.

The TC3W oil they tested worked pretty well, but I wonder what it would have done at 128:1, or 300:1, or some other ratio. Neat 1500, you recommended a non-TC3W (non-marine) oil, and clemsonfor recommended exactly the opposite. I respect both of your knowledge and experience, so was wondering how you each got to your positions. I didn't know if there were different rating agencies in Australia for 2 stroke oils. As I said, I've run both types, mostly because of what was available and simple for me to do. I wish I had more empirical data. Sorry to take the thread slightly off-topic.

No problem, i am only going on many others recommendations of using air cooled 2 stroke and not the TC3W oils.i have no authority or expert knowledge on this subject either, just what i had read and what the more learned than i had put forward. the 300:1 seemed to be enough oil to do what was required rather than rediculously overdosing it for ill or nil effect according to what i had read and they deemed it enough to give back the lubricating propertys that the ULSD took away. as for different oil ratings i am not sure between the countrys. all is good my friend, all is good;)

thanks for the help. wasn't sure if it could be ran off this ulsd. i use both in my mitsubishi, just depends on if i can get off road or not sometimes its hard to comeby around here.
1*95% of it all is ulsd.

2*I'll repeat what the others said.
they are the same thing only difference is that the offroad is dyed red to be used in non taxible senarios, like off the road applications like marine applications, generators, dirtworks equiptment and ag applications. So there is no tax on it.
3*That being said, in the past and still in areas where i live off road deisel is Low sulpher deisel(150ppm) and on road is Ultra low sulfer deisel (15 ppm).
2*Rite on .
3*They must still have some left over stock piled Low sulpher deisel in your area but , they aren't making any more of it .

I'm not a tractor owner (yet), but I run Power Service in my diesel Jetta. They say ULSD (in the US) is some of the worst when it comes to
4* "scar factor."
I use gray bottle of PS, but white bottle has anti-gel stuff in it. Wal-mart and other chain auto stores have it. Not expensive at all.
4*What's scar factor.

5* i will run the diesel additive because the off-road diesel is very hard to find around here. 6*when you do, you half to have an account that the state has to approve is what the co-op told me today.
5*You are not looking in the rite places.
Farmers contractors loggers excavators Etc.
around you are getting it somewhere.
6*Anybody has the rite to buy off road.

7*Not sure you understood what we were saying. Most likely where you live the off-road and onroad are the same fuel. There is no difference in the additives that are in either of them. The only difference is RED dye that is put in to let the DOT know that there are no taxes on offroad fuel. This way they can put strips in the tank of trucks on the highway and if they are red they know they are running non-taxed fuel. That being said additives are a good idea, for no more than you will use, even if it does nothing you wont be out $10yr for the quantity of fuel you prolly will use.
7* I am not sure he did either.

8*Either is OK. The only difference is dye color and taxes.
8*EXACTLY.

9*Yup what he said only the price and color I use red because I can. :D
9* Rite again .

Don't forget that if "off road" is hard to find,
10*you can use home heating oil and it is also cheaper than standard diesel. I am not sure how it compares in terms of sulfur content. That is sold everywhere around here and can easily be delivered if you have a tank or drum and need that quantity.
10*Home heating oil diesel and off road are all 3 the same thing in my area.

HHO should be ULSD in most places. I think here for a little longer it still is LSD. But anyhow it is the smae product as offroad, even red in color. Most places will want to deliver at least 100 gallons though. In a yanmar that will last you 5 years!!
11*I did go to the local distributer and had a drum filled up to fill my fuel oil tank
11* That's what I'm doing in these photos.

1*I went to the local distributer and had a drum filled up to fill my fuel oil tank at the farm for heat.
2*When I got thrugh I topped off the tank on the tractor.
1*Why did you have to go to the distributer when they will deliver and fill the farm tank ?
2*Why not just fuel up the tractor out of the farm tank ?

The fuel oil distributer in my area wanted 100 gallon minimun to drive the 15 miles to the farm. I dont use that much. My tank is for the HHO furnace, i could use it to fuel my tractor but i would have to open the top climb on a latter and then crank into the tractor and then remove the pum as it would not be water tight. I may use like 8 gallons on a busy weekend in my yanmar. Thats why. I bought fuel in the town i live in which is 3 hours from my farm, cause it was almost $.30 / gallon cheaper to do so. I put it on a trailer and hauled it to the farm to save the $$.

I use TCW3 mixed in with the diesel in my 5.9 Cummins and my Yanmar

From wiki...

and it is "wear scar," I guess.

Measurement of lubricity

Lubricity of a material cannot be directly measured, so tests are performed to quantify a lubricant's performance. This is done by determining how much wear is caused to a surface by a given friction-inducing object in a given amount of time. Other factors such as surface size, temperature, and pressure are also specified. The greater the wear scar the worse the lubricity. For this reason lubricity is also termed a substance's anti-wear property.

-----------------

From another forum

The U.S. standard for diesel fuel says a commercially available diesel fuel should produce a wear scar of no greater than 520 microns.

-------------------

I want to say European stardards are 460 microns, but not absolutely positive.

adding a lubricity agent to ULSD will help. Biodiesel has a good lubricity, but like I said earlier, I just use PowerService (Gray bottle as temps don't get cold enough for gelling here). It has "SlickDiesel" in it.
