Off Road diesel over store pump diesel

We are a major "off-road" user in the midwest, we source #2 on the Gulf Coast, and we can't get anything other than ULSD.

I'm not referring to lubrication. That is easily handled with 2 stroke oil. But it seems higher sulfur fuel is available and I'm wondering how that can be if ALL fuel is ULSD.

I was using Marvel Mystery oil as an additive in all my equipment till I heard it was only snake oil.LOL I have switched to Walmart 2 stroke oil which meets tcw3 stds and is reasonable.I also just use my regular 40:1 mix in my push mower now for about 4 yrs.That way i never have to worry about accidently putting straight gas into my weedwhacker.My mower runs great,no moke ,no fouled plugs.It is used about 3 hrs per week for the last 4 yr.

He meant that he is adding 2-stroke oil to ultra-low surphur diesel fuel.

I know but I also do this to keep from having multiple fuel tanks at home with different fuel.I forgot and grabbed gas can--nonmix can for weed trimmer--caught it in time. For my chainsaw I have a souped up saw so I have speial can with race fuel mix.works the nuts and the saw singgggggggs.

I have used "mixed" gas in small 4-cycle engines with no ill effects (Think "top cylinder oil").

However, you will find that some manufacturers of air-cooled engines say not to use TCW 2-cycle oils.



EDITED TO ADD: And then there's the opposite; using "chain saw" oil in water-cooled outboard motors. I was a passenger in a boat on Lake Taneycomo in southern Missouri when we "locked-up" a 2-cycle 25 hp. Mercury that was running chain saw oil. I never knew just how much oil he used, so i can't say for sure if it was the chain saw oil, or just a lack of oil, but it sure burned-up that engine whichever it was.

I would have to look it up but I think the air cooled 2 stroke does not lubricate properly in a water cooled 2 stroke since the outboards run in the 160-170 degree temp range

For my modified Husky saw and basically all my saws I run 1 qt 110 octane race fuel to 3 qts hi test non ethanol and either amsoil 2 stroke or husky 2 stroke oil at somewhere between 32:1 & 40:1.

So, if you added 2-stroke oil to #2 heating fuel to improve the lubricity, how much should you add...and does this eliminate the cost advantage of buying heating fuel for the tractor (about $0.20/liter here)? I guess the same could be asked about additives to reduce the chance of gelling (presuming that these are already in road diesel sold in the winter).

I don't think you will find road fuel to be anything more than #1 diesel, no anti-gel agent is in it. Even if a station claimed to have added it, I wouldn't trust it to be of correct proportion.

Interesting read. Looks like B20 will be the next fuel pushed on us. Not saying it isn't good or not. Then comes more questions about running it in our machines. I know now the info we are getting is it is great, but I have to wonder why there is no mention about less lubrication with ULSD and I assume B20 also. Also is the worry about less lubrication in our older machines a non issue?

It's not good. I made the mistake of getting 300 gallons of the stuff from my fuel supplier.
