Oil & Fuel off road diesel

That's all I use both summer and winter for the past 25 years , it is exactly the same as reg. diesel except for the red dye here in Maine . The place where I buy it sells a ton of it as the farmers and loggers use it for there off road equipment . The farmers drive there tractors from site to site and no one bothers them up here at least .

As others have stated, the only difference is the dye and tax. Either one are fine. I DO know some farmers that do and have run untaxed, red fuel in their pickups. They are braver than me!

We bring in ULSD via pipeline, and add the dye here. Then, we have to pay a testing lab to be sure there is enough dye in it.

Except in very unusual circumstances, the stuff is the same, red or not.

Also, the same stuff comes off the pipeline year-round- no difference between summer/winter, so if someone is selling "winter" diesel, most likely it
has been "winterized" locally, or at least at some point downstream of the refinery.

I think you are right about the winterization being done locally as weather patterns differ from region to region. That is why I don't trust the winterized fuel. I add my own to be sure.

its winterized here locally. they affix stickers when it arrives. In 16 years ive never added any supplements and have never had gelling issues. Have had 2 tractors and 2 diesel rigs running for 16 years. No issues.

im not jumping onto the additive bandwagon until i start having issues.

also, i get all my diesel from large truck stop supplier so i know it hasnt been sitting around long.

Ive never ran the red dye stuff but...

The filling station may sell you the regular highway diesel straight out of the pump on the island at the "tax exempt" off-road price. They just ring it up at the counter differently with your name and address etc. I don't know, but that regulation may vary from state to state.

I do believe there is a tax form where you can apply for the highway taxes you paid and get a refund. I want to say it is an MT-903? Over the road trucks ECU tracks the fuel used at idle and a company can apply for the highway tax back. If my memory serves me correct.
