Off Shore Banking

hitekcountry this is not directed at you, these are just my general thoughts after the tattoo sidenote.

We have some rental properties, and one thing I have found is that a new tattoo means the rent will be short this month.

While I am sympathetic about medical debt and possibly IRS debt. There are also some good hard working individuals who lost their homes due to 120% equity and adjustable rates that never fully understood that combining their debt was just spreading it out over 30 years. However, when you clean out a rental and find unopened DVD's, the "Community Action" paid heat set at 80 degrees F, canned food in the cupboards, toys, strollers, and cribs left behind. You realize that the choices they have made (still making) have put them in this position.

Lot of truth to this... started managing Rentals in 1982/83 and many times it is a question of priorities...

Poverty is an attitude and/or lack of ambition I suppose. When I immigrated to the USA I got a job in Adams Mark hotel in St. Louis downtown. I was working in the laundry room. Other immigrants got job as bellboy, coocks etc. I stayed at the hotel about 10 years later and some of them were still there. Minimum wage scared me so much that I missed only one day of school before graduation. I live in the USA 24 years now and although I was unemployed few months after graduation I never applied for unemployment. Since then I worked every single work day and many many weekends. So as you said it is all about choices. I make pretty good money but I still drive 20 years old car and live in a "barn". My wife's former secretary is dirt poor but she drives new near luxury car every two years. Go figure.
Oops. This thread is about offshore banking. I keep my money in USA. Since I expect inflation to pick up I will not pay my mortgage off and I will buy important stuff (such a new shop building and tools) now while the money is still worth something.
