Office with a View...... Firetower

   / Office with a View...... Firetower #21
My junior & senior years in high school - I worked for the forrest service during the summer. We were called a "standby suppression team". We spent both summers falling dead trees - cutting/splitting and hauling the firewood to various camping locations. This also included a couple lookout towers.

We actually got to help with two grassland fires in all that time. Most fencing in this area is steel post and barbed wire. Lightning hit a barbed wire fence - you can have a very large fire - all at once.

The old farm I spent time on as a kid during the Summer typically had split-rail fencing. Sometimes newer solutions have collateral problems.....

Despite all I (think I ) know about electricity, I'd never consider that aspect of wire posts....... causes me to chuckle more, as I understood the risk to submersible pumps via well casings long ago....

Always more to grok.......
