Something has wore out on my 286 Bushhog so I now have to disassemble it. The blades and stump jumper have way too much play side-to-side.

The castle nut holding the blade bar is a M30x2 nut, which is apparently a 46mm nut. The nut holding the blades on are 1 11/16", according to the manual. Thank god for Amazon.

This job is the reason I bought the Milwaukee 2767 1/2" Super Duper Hyper Diaper impact wrench. I guess once Amazon delivers (2 day shipping - Yay!), we're gonna find out if it was worth it.

Of course, once I get it apart, I may not like what I see. :(

Pics of one of the blade working end. Do these look like they should be replaced or are they good to go?

Thanks!

Looks like they should have been replaced....a while ago.

Ok, so for those that have replaced their Bushhog blades, do you typically reuse the blade bolt, nut etc or do you replace with all new. Messick's price for the bolt kit is $22 each while the blades go for $44.

I wish the local farm store hadn't gone out of business; they were a great resource. :(

Considering how worn those blades are I’d replace the blades and the bolts. The extra $44 is well worth the peace of mind knowing your new blades aren’t going to launch themselves into something you care about.

I believe that most manufacturers recommend replacing nuts and bolts along with the blades. Years ago I had an old JD pull behind with blades about 12" long extending from a long bar. The nuts and bolts cost more than the blades.

So you think those blades are pretty worn as well? I'm trying to gauge the "how bad is it" meter here, since I'm a newbie rotary blade replacer.

I'll plan on replacing the bolts, thanks!

I have to rig up a 6 foot cheater loosen the blade bolts. I have reused mine 3 times now. I put some extreme pressure grease on them. These bolts laugh at my 1/2" impact. You have to shore up the blade area and drive the blade bolts out. They are keyed too.

It takes a 5lb sledge to drive them out.
Can't help you on lower seal and bearing/bushing.
Post pics and be careful.

Which 1/2" impact is that? Anyone use a Milwaukee 2767 M18 Super impact? If so, did it work. I bought that impact specifically to replace Bushhog blades.
