I usually use my 1” impact to remove the nuts. Then support the blade bar before knocking the bolts out.

Shoot I wound up just taking mine over to the local Kubota dealer and got those guys to replace my blades with the new ones I had already bought. I couldn't get the bolts to budge for me. I figured the dealer was cheaper than the emergency room...lol.

You will also need a socket for the nut (key 9) at the top of the output shaft. The shaft needs to come out to replace the bearings.

Actually, if you have bearing debris in the gear oil, you might should replace all bearings and seals.

Got the 1 11/16 deep impact socket Tuesday PM. Tried it yesterday with the help of my cousin. Used my 1/2" M18 Fuel Milwaukee battery powered impact wrench.

#1 nut: Like Buttah! Then we banged on the stump jumper and the bolt fell out (not sure if that's good or not).

#2 nut started spinning the bolt. Got a hold of it with a large pipe wrench, off it came. Had to pound that bolt a bit to get it out.

Possible good: It appears the M30-2 castle nut has backed off somehow, leaving the blade bar not tightened anf rather loose. It may just be a matter of tightening the nut and I'm good to go. However, I'm not buying it until I get the 46 mm socket and can take the castle nut off completely, take the stump jumper off and see what's what.

Pics when I download them!

Thanks!

What size socket for a M40-1.5? And why is it different sized than the bottom M30-2???????

And oh by the way: Good guess on the serial number of my 286!

Glad you got them off, I have one of the fuel brushless impacts , use it all the time. I didn’t have it yet when I changed the last set of blades but I need to remove all four on my twin spindle in a few weeks to clean them up, obviously it will be the first tried. As for the blade bar nut sounds as if either the cotter key was never installed or it came out and the nut worked loose. That’s a tapered shaft on the gearbox so the nut backing off a small amount could make it wobble quite a bit, hope it’s that simple of a fix for you.

Pulling the stump jumper/blade carrier off the gearbox shaft will be fun. I had to heat the stump jumper sleeve up with a oxy/acetylene torch and use a Power Team 17 ton hydraulic puller to get one off my B.I.L.'s brush cutter. The shaft and stump jumper is splined AND tapered.
