The toolbox on my Kioti won't fit a hammer and this offends me, therefore I'm replacing it. I'll be using the existing mount, so just replacing the box. I've found two that strike my fancy, one metal and one plastic.

I figure the advantages of the metal box would be strength, esthetics, and larger size; the disadvantage being rust.

I would presume the plastic box would be better sealed from the weather, be easier to drill through, and while when pushed to it's limits would break before the metal box- it wouldn't dent. Disadvantage being that it would break first, and it's a little smaller.

Anyhow, the metal box.

I'm also open to suggestions for other boxes.

I would recommend the metal box. It's more robust and will handle not only the vibrations but the UV rays, both of which will cause more deterioration in a plastic one.

Incorporating a layer of foam neoprene (easily scavenged/cut from a 'stubbie holder'/'koozie') between the box & the mounting frame will reduce vibrations.

I've had the plastic JD boxes on both of my tractors. Really like them I like that plastic box you are looking at. Who makes that box? I'm not a fan of metal tool boxes on tractors though I do like the ammo cans.

I replaced the OEM plastic box with a larger metal box.
Then I welded a hammer head on the end of 10 or 12" crescent wrench and tossed it in the box along with all the spare pins, fence pliers, rag, and gloves needed.

Toolboxes are like attics; your possessions expand to fill them. Anytime you have to walk back to the workshop for a tool, you can rationalize carrying that tool on the tractor. Like barns or attics, toolboxes (you don't have to personally carry) are never big enough.

I have a small cheap metal box. It's large enough to hold a ball pein hammer and a few basic tools and wrenches. A few spare shear bolts are in there as well as a couple of rags and rubber gloves. The "leaky" area is the piano hinge, but I fixed that by glueing a strip of rubber to the top that covers the hinge. As I recall, it's a piece of old inner tube. It's stayed dry for the past few years.

If I need more tools than can fit in that, I limp the tractor back to the barn where the real tools are. Or start walking to retrieve the truck with parts and tools. 🤷‍♂️

I have two boxes mounted on my tractor, one is plastic on the side and one is metal at the back behind the seat..
I definitely prefer the plastic one. The metal one is already deformed from heavy tools and chains, it is already hard to close it. The plastic one with same amount of similar tools, being sitting on the side, hence getting hit by brunches and what not, still, as good as new.
