Congrats on FINALLY getting your rig!! I'm assuming the bathroom remodel must be finished if the wife consented to having it delivered. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Having had mine for a week now, I have to say it's the best toy...er TOOL I 've ever bought!! Coming up on my 15th hour after a week, and if the weather holds, hopefully put on some more today and tomorrow. I've been putting in postholes for our perimeter fence and clearing fence line, and even with keeping the rpm's below 2K, the auger is like a hot knife through butter. I get jittery just thinking about 200 holes and a hand phd.

Know what you mean about the grease and dirt. Between the ten hour grease and lube and the 90w for the phd gear box, I'm covered. The wife is making me strip down to my skivvies on the back porch before I can come in the house! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Another plus for living in the country with NO neighbors.

Have fun, be safe and enjoy the new "tools". Post more pics when you get her dirty.

BTW, could I suggest maybe the Purina LITE. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

MFL,

Going to hook up the PHD today and practice a few holes just to see how she does. Spent some time yesterday and Friday using the rotary cutter. Between the guy who dropped off the tractor and the thread on how much slack to use for the top link with the Cutter, I had her dialed in in no time.

Only one problem. Been a couple of years since some of this area has been cut. Has now become some kind of breeding ground for Killdeers (sp?). You know, those birds that nest on the ground and if you get close they run around like they have a broken wing trying to draw you away from the nest. Anyway, I had a few marked out and was staying away from them and then I saw two more after about six passes with the cutter. Finally just drove back to the house and started disconnecting the cutter. My wife came out and was watching me get greasy and asked what I was doing quitting when the job was only about ten percent done. I told her I quit cutting until the end of June when all the nests should be abandoned. She looked at me and said, well then it wouldn't have mattered if it wasn't delivered until then.

Bite your tongue woman. I have plenty of box-blading to keep me busy and I can bore some holes as well. Besides I finished your bathroom, well mostly, and I am a free man.

I did too, that is finish the bathroom. Well, like I said, mostly. I was in the process of installing the door handle when the guy arrived and I haven't got back to it yet. Told the wife that I needed to make sure the paint was dry on the door. After three days I think she is getting suspicious.

Here is the worst part. the day after the tractor arrived, we had guests arrive for the long weekend. Each time I beg for seat time my wife mentions the guests. I'm dying here, when I got the unit it had 3.1 hours. Now, three days later it has 5.5. There is no way that can be right. AND, on Friday we leave for a vacation for ten days. I have never NOT wanted to go on vacation so bad. In fact, it is so bad that today when we were figuring out the logistics for going to church I offered to drive the tractor and free up a seat in the car for someone. No dice, she even asked for the key.

NEVER!!!

Mike

By the way, srs. I will post another pic of the dog as soon as she sits still long enough for a photo. You can tell by looking at her that she is just a constant ball of energy. Have to use fast film.

I thought I was the only one that this happened to. Mind you she may have a point. When you head to the house sweaty, dusty, covered in red dirt and grease it's little wonder that she chases you back outside. That red dirt gets everywhere and stains everything. She's even hosed me down and thrown an old towel out the kitchen door at me.

But you're right, that's one of the joys of living in the country with no neighbours. Just try chasing dogs in the city at 2 o'clock in the morning wearing your Fruit of the Looms and not get arrested. Who's a redneck???????

That's funny !!! But like you said living in the country does have it's advantages ! Poppa tell your wife that your tractor clothes aren't REALLY dirty unless you can throw them at the wall and they stick !!! Or your dog tries to roll on them !
Personally I use the wall method . It's just too hard to clean the dog with the other method . If You really want to disgust her ,try an hour of weed eating . It makes you look kind of like a self propelled CHEA PET ! John

EastTexFrank,

"Who's a redneck??" Good question for this forum! Since I've bought my tractor, and more generally, since I moved to the "country", I'm often surprised and amused by how quickly people will use that term about me. Before we bought our little farm, my wife and I lived in a quite tony townhouse in the heart of Atlanta. Since we don't have children, my wife and I often dined out, went to the theater regularly and were on a first name basis with the staff of some of the nicer clubs in town. To many of our friends we were the model yuppie hipsters. At the same time we loved spending time with our friends in the "country", riding our horses, and generally being covered in horse byproduct up to our knees. As soon as we bought our farm, some of our in-town friends assumed that our IQ dropped by 30 points, that indoor plumbing was now an option, and that our teeth would be falling out any minute. I was (and am) amazed at how strongly these stereotypes are engrained in some people.

One of the main reasons I enjoy this forum so much is that the people writing here so consistently, and blatantly break the stereotype of the "redneck". Even though we mostly all live in the country, own tractors and enjoy a rural lifestyle, almost without exception, everyone is very literate, well spoken, knowledgeable on a great many things, and without sounding immodest, pretty **** well off!! So yeah, if owning 25K + of toys, spending th day working the land, then opening a bottle of Opus 1 and sitting on the porch listening to a little Vivaldi (or Lyle Lovett) makes me a redneck then I'll take it!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think the more appropriate term would be "Renaissance Men" /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sorry for the threadjack Poppa, I'll stick to tractors from now on. Did I tell you how well my skidding tongs worked with the tractor. Took out seven good sized pines today after I popped the shear pin on the auger (another story). /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
