Tractor
Massey Ferguson 1643 ,2010
As you can see my name,? Roger 4400? I dreamed of a L4400 HST for 2 years now. Last week was THE week. I went to my dealer and tried a 4400 with ordinary tranny (did not have a hst) . The seller started the brand new engine, I sat on.....and was immediatly desapointed,:( the tractor was shaking more than my 1959 Oliver...and I slipped on the painted steel floor. I went on a 3400 hst , the seat was ordinary, and I asked the seller if the l 4400 hst was the same, he said Yes and I asked if like the 3400, the 4400 had the breaking pedals the same side of the hst pedal, He told me ?Yes ?. I think that it is not pratical if you want to make a sharp turn, You have to push one brake pedal and with the same foot push on the hst pedal to go ???? Or I,m missing some other way to do so??? (I'm not very experienced with tractors)Then the seller made me the? best price? he could offer.
I went to the Massey Ferguson dealer nearby. Sat on a 1643, 2hp less than the l4400. The engine was smooth, thick rubber floor, confortable seat with armrests, 2 hst pedals on the right side and 2 braking pedals on left side, telescopic 3 points etc ..etc... more luxous and $500 cheaper.
The 1643 is as strong (loader and 3 point) and has a bigger hydraulic flow. So I do not think I made a bad move, and I was joking saying I was a traitor. I guess that a massey can be as good as a Kubota, but I really had a big deception trying My dreamed 4400.....I knew that the 4400 was a basic machine.......but not that basic. I really really was disapointed...:(
See you all and take care.

You have it figured out pretty well.
Why Kubota (and others) with HST have that brake pair on the right is beyond my comprehension. They just as well leave off the individual wheel brakes and save the money. Be like just a lawn tractor at best.

Congratulations. You just followed your gut, which is what I did. I tried all the tractors and found the best one I liked for the price. The split braking was unusual but not a deal killer for me. I guess if you have a gear tractor it is then usable or if you use cruise control.

Have fun.

Agree with Goose; am in the early stages of thinking about my next tractor and while I am pretty sure it will be a Kubota, I may change my mind once I get serious and start looking; enjoy your tractor.

So Rodger, what did you do other than sit on the tractors??

I think you did good. I tried Massey and really like them. I mean I really did, but they were (at the time when I looked) more expensive then the equivalent of Kubota. I didn't particularly care about the color. I like them all as long as they do the work. Have lots of fun.

Egon, I only drove them...both machine are the same weight so I believe they will behave mostly the same. I might be wrong. I might be wright. I worked with my Oliver for 10 years so I have some experience in mowing, plowing and logging. The hydraulics 3 points or loader have the same specs. But the Massey have more flow.
Maybe a Kubota works a lot more smoother but I did not drove any of them for a day,a week, or so. Toyota HAD a very strong reputation......and they hit the ground real hard. As I told before I WANTED A 4400 BUT the feeling seating on the 4400 was bad. I have a bad left hip. After plowing for a few hours, it hurts badly and I will have difficulty to walk for one day or so. I was more confortable on the Massey BUT IT IS PERSONNAL and I hated all the pedals being on the same side , it looks like using the same patern than the ordinary tranny, clutch on the left, and every thing else on the other side. Maybe some persons like that patern, BUT I ONLY TOLD MY OPINION AND EXPERIENCE....no bad feeling here or vengeance.....I only said I was deceived, that,s all. Have a nice day.
Did you had any experience on both machine , you could help me in telling me what to be aware on the Massey. Thank you.

Last Massey I was on was a 44 so that might not be of much help. It did have a ventilated seat though.:D

Egon, you had a ventilated seat........Of all I know of life, a happy *** makes a happy man......just joking. Was it the big brother of the well renown Massey 35?
My rear end felt real happy on that Massey`s seat.
I would have like to try a Grand L but they were too expensive for my bubget.:D
Have a nice day

Roger,
You did the right thing for you! I had an Oliver 1600 and traded for a Kubota L4350, back when they made them really tough. Hydraulic shuttle (HST pedal on the column) why don't they make them all like that?
You can still use the brakes! I have a B7800 HST and have the same brake problem now and no foot throttle. Personally I would bring back the right foot throttle and put the HST on the column where it belongs. Enough said.
