You have it figured out pretty well.
Why Kubota (and others) with HST have that brake pair on the right is beyond my comprehension. They just as well leave off the individual wheel brakes and save the money. Be like just a lawn tractor at best.

On my HST I never use the brakes, except to lock them down if I stop.

Where I live (60 acres) the land is flat..so no problem...but on my second land ,a 145 acres woodlot, a lot of hills, and the last slope is at least 300 to 400 feet long and maybe 30 degrees angle, so when logging I might have to help the hst compression with the brakes.....the drop could be +-100 feet, when at the top of the hill, I see over my tree top down there....So for me braking is a safety matter and I felt safer with an easy reach of all the pedals...every land and every individual are particular. I never brought my old Oliver on that hill, because I imagine myself on the slope, putting the brake and on our 2 wd tractor the brakes are never well balanced , I was seeing myself falling down,,,,scary.

When I was in the market for a tractor, I looked at Massey first, a 1528. I liked it to be honest and I felt pretty comfortable with the dealer. I am not a price negotiator. I give a seller ONE shot to offer me a fair price. I got my price from Massey and then visited the Kubota dealer. Well I got a slightly bigger tractor with more horsepower, a bigger motor for over $2,000 less. The dealer has been around for a long time and is respected just like the Massey dealer. So I went with Kubota. It was the price that did it for me.

I lock the brake pedals together on my CX80 and MF 375, on my Ford NAA and 600 I actually use the split brakes. On my HST models I only use the brake when parking. As mentioned, depends on the operator, tractor and terrain.

You could use the cruise control with the brake but I have not tried it yet.

Should be no different than when using them on my geared tractors, but I have never done it either.

Brand names are okay to start your research, but in the end it's the "seat test" that has the final say. If you don't feel comfortable or aren't satisfied when trying it out new, you'll never be happy with it later.

Specs are nice, but gotta get the one that suits YOU.

On the L3240 the cluch is on the right , brakes in the middle HST pedal on the right .Using the split brakes is easy, by using your right foot for the hst and your left on either one of the brake pedal to control your turn. The only thing that might feel strange is putting your lift foot on the right side of the brakes to turn a sharp right . After a few times you don't think twice about it . I use mine pushing snow more than anything so far. When you push on the brakes ,the cruise control will stop working. (Just got to be able to use both feet at once:confused2:)

On my B3030 you can use one brake or the other with the cruise control on. That's what I do the odd time I use the brakes for steering assist. If you push both brakes together it will force the cruise off. A handy thing if you forget that you have the cruise on and the tractor doesn't stop when you lift your foot off the HST pedal. Guess how I know that??
If the brake pedals hadn't been right where I expect them to be I might have run over something that time but reflexes pegged the brakes and the tractor stopped in time.
