now that you suggested about the fill tube and cap, when i was checking the oil i noticed there is white moisture built up on the cap and top of tube. that is the first time i see that, the anti freeze seems to be right up to where it belongs. the test you are talking about would be easy and before ripping anything apart, finding the cause first. good idea

your push rod could be bent too

if the push rod was bent, then the valve wouldn't close tight?

A bent push tube wouldn't open the valve as far as it should. So the valve would be closed longer and open later and close faster.

The white build up is odd usually it's a brown color because of the color of the oil and coolant mixing. So it is usually brown. Maybe white if you wash the mower a lot.

I was way off on the name of that meter for checking crankcase pressure. It is called a dynamometer.

You can actually make one with a long piece of clear tube. A piece of wood or something and zipties.

Is it dry white build up or just light colored oil? water and or air can make oil milky like that

no, there was a quite a bit of milky mess on the cap and top of the filler tube

Have you done a compression test yet?
Back in 2011 my 445 had just over 1000 hours.
That tube was blowing oil into the filter real bad. I even made me a tube to let all that oil blow out on the ground for a few months.
No smoke & it seemed to run OK, but I had like 160psi on the left side and maybe 190 on the right side.
It was fouling the left plug often.
I never did see any milky stuff on the filler cap.
I had a set of rings installed including that little reed valve and cover. Which is real cheap but NOT easy to get to.
The left side was worn and egg shaped so that I should have had it bored oversized and installed larger pistons/rings but that was too expensive so I rolled the dice.
Now after 300 more hours I still have a small amount of oil coming into the breather. I have never had the valves or heads worked on, except for adjusting the valve after the engine was reassembled, so I am interested in what you find with this.
I still have trouble with it fouling plugs so something is still not right but I am not sure what.

i have not done a compression test. i will do that next, but the problems you are having are exactly the same as mine. i will bet your right plug is tan and clean also. your right the tractor does run fairly good and doesn't smoke either, but the plug is black and fouled also. i also ran a hose to run the blow by out the bottom so it would not soak the air filter. after i did that is did run smoother, but i am sure the problem is what you are saying. didn't you have to take off the head to take out the piston? of were you able to remove it from the bottom. also where is the reed valve located? sounds lilke i'm on the same track as you

also where is the reed valve located?

That valve is someplace in this picture of the engine end, but I am not sure exactly where.

I paid someone about $650 to put the rings in.
The other picture is what it looked like as he was tearing the engine apart.

Thay picture of the motor. That little valve is in the top part that looks like a box in the bottom left corner I believe.
