Don't know if I would but some of these guys will do anything the get a date correct new old stock part. I know this guy has never started the car. Its just a show car and he figures everytime its started it looses value. He is a fanatic and I know for a fact he flew from Michigan to CA to get new old stock parts. He claims to have close to $100,000 in a low mileage fully documented one-owner 69 Z28 Camaro in a rare color, no less.

Not true. Its stored in a climate controlled garage/museum. Starting it up just for the sake of starting will do more harm than good, introduce condensation into the engine, exhaust system etc.

this is not the Z28 but another one of his many cars At the Chicago - Muscle Car Nationals

This car was one of the best camaro's of the show. These guys are from way up north in Allouez, Michigan and the owner John XXXXXX not only owns this car but did the restoration and it was awesome. John owns a repair automotive center but he should be restoring cars full time.

Cars must be different than tractors. If I restore a tractor then park it.. seals weep, tires crack.. and points corode.. even parking them in a decently protected barn. bats go flat.. .. they run like crud after setting. rings stick..e tc.. etc.. carbs get gummy.. etc..

running them around lightly seems to help them. looking at ones I use infrequently, but letting them warm up is good.. I wouldn't start one to just shut it down.. that would invite moisture. vs ones I have more or less mothballed.. the ones that get light frequent use are still in top condition.. the others.. when I need to move them.. it's always a 2 hr job just to get them to start.

so again.. cars must be different.. :)

It's a AC Duraguard PF2 the box says fits model year to 88 - 91 and crosses with a Motorcraft FL1A
On bottom of box it says... AC Rochester Division General Motors Corporation Flint, Michigan 68556 U.S.A Made in U.S.A Printed in U.S.A
Heck, this may be a collectors item now.. LOL

id rinse it out and wipe the rust off the face of it. If the inside is not rusted when looking in to it it does not matter. Thats where the clean oil comes from. I have used some like this i beleive?

If the rust is just bloom rust and not flaking, it is not likely going to wash off in the oil and contaminate anything. With that said, the risk is low or not probable at all for rust contamination, however, who know what the internal filter paper is like after 20+ years it could be weakened to the point of disintegration. I would toss them since we are only talking <$8 for replacement cost. PF2 are still common filters for Fords and Dodge engines and not likely to be a "collector" item. I think I might have one in my collection of antique parts that I need to toss if I come across it again.

You are not alone I have a collection of the older filters and canned engine oil, left from my earier days of DIY auto work.
