Oil shelf Life -how to know the best before date!

There's no expiration date on any of the oil I have. You can't really use the API Service code any more because they still make SD service oil. But you can use that code to determine if the oil is usable for your application. Codes beginning with "S" are for gasoline engines. Codes beginning with "C" are for diesel engines. The second and third character will determine if the oil can be used for the YEAR of your ENGINE. Besides that, all you have to worry about is the Weight/Temperature Coverage.

Simple math here. If you have it, use it. As long as it meets your engine specs.

when my father died 10 years ago he had a huge stockpile of cases of oil. i am still using it up, i just shake the jug up before i open them.
A few months ago I was at a Auto parts store that is also the regional distributor for Mopar and they had a quart of Mopar transmission fluid on the counter and it said right on the bottle to shake before using.

I have always shaken oil bottles. I shake before use and then again when halfway empty. I've seen lots of stuff hiding and the bottom of the container and just presume it's the additive package. Plus, I let each container drain into the engine for maybe five minutes to get anything out that I missed.
