The curve in the video was interesting. Also, based on the additive package and what product it's used in, the shearing of the oil molecules is a factor. By wearing out the additive package you leave behind the base stock and it wears out even quicker. Hence in some product applications you would want to change to oil more often. We are seeing this especially in the 6 speed Honda Pilot and Ridgeline transmissions. It is a factor. Oil testing shows that the DW-1 wears out and allows more wear to occur (iron content increases). Then as time passes you wear out parts within the transmission UNLESS you change the fluid more frequently. This is the shearing of the additives and then by increasing replacement frequency it keeps wear low. Thin oil vs mechanical application.
